Well I still regard myself as a long boarder even though I SUP.
Still think it is just dumb to wreck a piece of gear like that.

Why do it? Presumably Surftech have found that people are worried that since it is a hollow board it will sink if it gets dinged in, e.g. a race, and they think that is putting them off from buying one.

But if sales aren't what they expected, I'd have thought they should just look at the price of this thing.

In the UK the 12-6 Phantom costs about 3400 GBP.

That is 5,780 Australian Dollars.

Or 5,303 US dollars.

In the UK you could buy TWO 12-6 raceboards from any other premium brand for that.

So, if on top of that cost, you think that if you were miles from shore and got hit by a jetski the whole thing would sink to the bottom of the briney leaving you just clutching your empty wallet for flotation, then yep I reckon that might be a deal-breaker.

Most of the people I know who might buy a SUP have trouble affording a board that costs less than a third of the Phantom. 3400 GBP is approx. 1.5 times the monthly average household income in the UK.

Hi Guys,

I've seen that video twice before and just can't watch it again here. The most cringeworthy video ever. You can only understand it fully when you have had a Phantom to admire at close range. No board is finished with the perfect detail of the Phantom.

Yes they are expensive, but you get more than just a paddle board, to me it is a piece of fine art that just happens to paddle well. I don't reckon these boards are targeted at the average punter looking for a lightweight board to win races on, they are made for the buyer who wants a truly unique and beautifully crafted fast board.

The Phantom isn't the fastest board on the market, you won't start winning races just because you paddle on one, although they won't hold you back either. If you have to ask the price of one of these, then it really isn't the board for you and thats OK. There are lots of other fast and stable, very decent boards on the market, but I haven't seen any other board that looks as beautiful as the Phantoms, they are a credit to the dedication of Joe Bark and Surftech. The paintwork is immaculate, the finish, perfect, the alignment of the trim in the deck grip is spot on. I can't fault the one we have and I've been over it with a fine tooth comb.

The devil really is in the detail. I hope to own the last one on the shelf in our store someday.

DM

PS. No disrespect Dogman, but I can't believe they let you loose on one
