Hi guys and girls,

A quick reminder about this weekends BOP Race. Check out the link to the event here :www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Events/Event.aspx?id=5448266

I'll add more details later this afternoon. I'd appreciate expressions of interest so we know roughly how many may be turning up.

Cheers,

Will be somewhere with waves :-) pity would be fun. More precise fun to watch.

Get some vid especially if the turn buoy is inside the surf line. Should be low tide Not much space inside the waves though, bank is almost on the beach could be some carnage

HI Guys,

Have run into a slight problem with beach reservation/booking as there is a junior surf comp on at same time taking up the entire Trigg area. Thoughts to move the comp up towards Contacio's are a bit of a concern with a decent swell forecast and the waves getting a little larger than we would be comfortable with. Short period sucky beachies will lead to trouble if the swell gets up.

The emphasis is on fun and participation and not damaged boards etc. After competing in small waves on the Goldy, the possibility of damaged boards on the inside turn buoy is quite high with falls guaranteed and others riding in on waves wont be able to get off in a hurry.

In the interests of safety and respect of keeping gear in one piece, I'm thinking of moving the race to Pinnaroo Point. Racing will still be fun and tight with less danger and chance of carnage. I know this won't sit well with some people, but I can tell you the fun factor will still be there.

I'll confirm venue tomorrow at this stage.

Without annoying too many people would Mulla's be worth a look? Might have half the wave as Trigg/Contacio....

Doubt it would be any good on anything but a high tide (which wont be until around sunset on the weekend), most of the time even normal surfboard and kiteboard fins are bottoming out just after the wave breaks.

Hi Peeps,

In light of the few issues and lack of water depth creating an acceptable course (My bad, Sorry! Should have thought more about the tides. Lesson learnt for next time )

We are going to run the Battle of the Paddle at Pinnaroo Point. Same times, just different location. We'll be finished by 9am for those who are keen on a surf afterwards.

The racing is hard and quite a workout, but loads of fun which anyone who raced last time would surely attest to.

If you've never raced before, come along and have a go, we usually have a few spare raceboards to demo which you can borrow if you like. The emphasis is on fun and participation, getting to know other paddlers and sharing all that is good about SUP. We have Quick blade paddles to demo too if you like after the race.

Surf will still be there once we're finished, in fact it should be getting better.

There should be still a decent crew of keen racers who would have still taken the top 10 places in any case [}:)]

The gauntlet, sir, has been thrown down!

Hi Guys,

Another great morning of racing. Pinnaroo looked as flat as can be this morning. The water was clear and clean so we planned the course, set the buoys and waited for the punters. We started almost exactly at 7.30am and raced the "M" shaped course. Deceptively, the outer markers were out in the midst of a very confused chop coming from several directions. On top of this, a strong East south, easterly made the turns around the cans even more difficult as the nose of the race boards turned square on to the wind mid kick turn and held up the turn.

The first three lap race with two run sections was won by Cam McKay ...... again. surf4fun is the one to watch, very quick on his Fanatic 12'6 carbon race. Racing was very close in the first lap with board noses swinging over the tail of the boards in front at the turns. Very good racing! Very hard workout!

Second race we changed it up and reversed the direction of the course to even it out for everyone who favour one side when turning. Timekeeper Todd called for a handicap start for the second race and we all sat there in the water watching as the slower racers took off. The idea was that all racers were to finish at the same time. It worked well and the racing was faster and more competitive.

It was great fun trying to reel in the first starters as the laps ticked by. I managed to stay on my feet for the whole race and just pipped Rob on the final leg back to the beach to take the handicap honours. Everyone paddled hard and did well in the blowey conditions and confusing chop.

We'll put up all times and places after we get a chance later today or tonight. Fun racing for sure. Thanks to all those who turned up and travelled long distance to come and race. The support for racing is very much appreciated. Next one will be in the waves ...... I promise

A great event darren, thoroughly enjoyed myself. Will have to work on that handicap...mind you I did have to contend with that jet ski wake.
Timekeeping was excellent too.

As on my report card back in 1962, "continued efforts will bring results'

Thanks DM, another slick event. Very challenging conditions, even if it wasn't a 'classic style' BOP race. The handicap start of the 2nd race was a great idea!
I think the ticker will have recovered enough for this arvo's Downwinder with a 'Strong wind warning' up our tail.
