Bendy SUP shafts have been around for a while now and they made a lot of sense but never really caught on... But they are just about make a comeback.. IMO.

I know Werner, and maybe Kialoa and a few other brands are working on prototypes.. It's all about ergos.. It will be interesting to see who brings one out first.

Also some makers of wood paddles in Hawaii are making them.. I've also seen some paddle makers using a bendy shaft and a straight blade.

They put your lower hand in a full fisted grip with your wrist at a straight angle to the shaft grip.

I'll post a few pictures soon.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Some of the first mountain bike handle bars were straight but it didn't take long before people realised it wasn't the best way to do it.

Hey Brendan.

Mt Bike bars now have a bend in them is because the trend now is to have a shorter lower straight stem and a bar with rise in it to give that more sit up position.

A longer stem with more rise and a flat bar will do the same thing but will look a bit old fashion.. It's also to get that motocross bike look.. (IMO)

Re.. the bendy paddle shaft thing.. I just noticed Nikki's bendy shaft paddle as she runs out of the water at the end of this vid.. I think it's the new Werner.

Double bend paddles are quite popular in outrigging, have been for quite a while.

Dare I say though and this is only from my personal observations that they are used more commonly by women or smaller paddlers. The reason perhaps as you said above DJ that due to ergos they have less strain using them.

People I have questioned like and dislike them, it's just personal taste.
