Hey Rodkite
I feel for you. I can't help with the keys, wife or paddle but this may help your back.
I have had a severe spinal injury 5 years back that paralysed my right leg.. I had spinal surgery followed by 4 months in back rehab. My leg works fine now with about 50% power to the foot and Hamstring. From all this i have on a numerous number of times twisted the back and caused severe spasm. I do accupunture myself and have a great physio that normally combined gets me back out on the water in one week. This may sound good but we have recently discovered the
Holy Grail for back injury that is caused by
spasm.
A good mate of mine is a doctor and we were talking about what some doctors are doing by injecting cortisone and anesthic straight into the effected muscles. He had not personally done it but as the swell has been great up here I was keen to get the back fixed and get back out there. At the time I was talking to him I was having trouble even getting out of a chair. This sounds like how you may feel.
Well my mate had none of the cortisone that they are using and as I keen to try anything I asked what else could do the trick. We tried an (experiment like) mixing anesthetic and Valium in a syringe and injecting that straight into the effected muscles along the spine. Anesthic killed the pain and the valium relaxed the muscles.
Two minutes latter I was up walking around pain free. He said to take an oral valium that evening to assist with preventing the spasm returning. I was able to surf the next day.

I would have a chat to your local GP and see what is possible.
Stretch stretch stretch and try not to sit still as this promotes the spasm. The more you move the better.
