Can anyone provide some insight into a big fellas wave sup.

I am 6.1 weigh 105 kegs, I am a shortboard surfer as well as sup surfer. I was thinkin of the PSH Ripper 9.6 or shoul dI be considering the 9.8 model? I tried the 9.8 starbourd fish, it was alright still a bit boxy when turning, I has no troubles with balance or paddling. Or should I consider the C4 9.6. Any help from someone of similar size would be appreciated.

just a thought, try these boards in less then ideal conditions, in chop can be a whole new ball game. you'll see in these forum heaps people ripping in glass and then say they struggle to stay on em when its windy or choppy, or they only take their trick boards out when its good

Im not interested in a 8.6, if the surf is that good ill most likely be riding my shortboard. I do however want a board that can provide good turning for reos, cutbacks etc, but also can be used in less than ideal conditions.

looking at your comments, i would say look at the naish 9'6''. it can do all those turns and would be my board of choice in crap.

same kg- 6.2"high, rides shortboards but sup surfing throws another angle on it all !currently riding a PSH 9-6"wideAA & have no problems in most conditions but would like to try a 9-6" or 9-8' wide ripper. DEMO its the only way to go what ever brand or size. pm me if in S.A. your welcome to have a try. cheer's

Im leaning toward the 9.6WAA. How have you found it regarding bottum turns, reos and cutbacks? Also what about the tracking when paddling? Is it a quad fin, I have yet to see one.

I have ridden the 9'6WAA and the 9'6WRipper. The 9'6WAA I can ride in almost any conditions now 20kn offshore or onshore, cross chop you name it, the 9.6WR can only ride in glassy conditions. I find with the ripper I have to sit right under the lip and tilt the board up in the wave to take off as I get little glide from it. On the wave the 9'6WR is 40% looser in my opinion.

Thanks for that. I am definitely going to seek out the 9.6WAA for a run. The idea of SUP for me is to be able to ride most conditions as that is what has drawn me off the shortboard. Hoefully the board will enable a few good shortboard style turns as well.

For lacey check out balmoral boards website, they have all the WAA AA etc boards for you to familiarise yourself with.

If you can balance on the 9'6 ripper then go for it as that board is really good and is more stable than the 9'8 ripper and with your weight you should be able to really throw it around.

105 kegs,anything under 9 foot would be just to hard work.Think about this one,if your new to SUP'ing at 105 kg's your going to drop 5 kg's in four weeks.

Also have the 9 6" naish Awesome board, rips for a big board, turns really well and loose with fcs sf 3 fins it, this board would be hard to beat

Also have a quiver of over 7 shortboards, been on one once in the last few months, when its going off now im either on the 8 6" or 9 6",
