A DJ Masterclass. In the earlier part of the vid he is working left on the runners constantly, pushing into what was a stiff off shore component of the wind. Making it look easy when the wind was trying to push the nose of the board to the right.

Thanks.. It was gusting very off shore making it a mostly right side paddle and constant left turning on runners..

It was a shame to miss so many good runners because they were heading towards Portsea..

The board really surprised me in those conditions.. So good.. So fast.. No real problem with the low nose.. Didn't catch it.. or a rail once.. No real falls other than a couple of silly slip-offs while going to sit down or stand while stopped from not concentrating.. It was nice to cool off.. .. The new Javelin flys when you keep the tip of the nose just out of the water.. and even poking the nose under at speed has no real effect.. It really is quite amazing.. I expected it to catch for sure.. The other thing that amazed me was how the high thickness of the nose was not effected by the strong side winds.. Did I mention the board is fast.. .. It's like there is no top speed once planing.. Paddle harder and it just goes faster.. The Naish guys say the the extra speed is for getting over one bump and onto the one in front.. I'm not that energetic.. I'd rather hang in there.. Milk it and try and link them.. The tail rocker alows you to raise the nose when needed and controle the speed when dropping into a steeper runner.. I found myself moving more than I really need to.. It's only my third time on this board so it's still early days.. I'm thinking it can only get better..

Great footage DJ! What isn't said is that the graph at Fawkner Beacon shows that it was around 35 - 38 knots gusting up to 44 at the time. So pretty strong conditions with a somewhat annoying off-shore component. There were some 20 paddlers and quite a few of us had to spend sometime on our knees fighting the off-shore line. Not only a great vid DJ, but a good demo of your downwinding skills. As Kaihoe said, "A DJ masterclass".

Thanks Mark..

What a shame the wind wasn't continually true north.. Just those few degrees NE in those super strong gusts is enough to cause panic and worry about being blown too far out.. Let's hope the next honking North wind stays true north.. Thanks for your help getting my new board back on the car roof safely..

i got myself a glide 2013 14x29.25Gs mate yeeoooww!!!! and really hanging out to get some winds the right direction here
I have a question do you find the nose carried by the wind any more with the new Jav than the ol Glide ? with all that volume ?
nice video too

I have never had a problem with any of the Glides (V1,V2 and V3) with wind catching the nose like some boards do.. The new Jav is much higher in the center of the board but the rails are low and not at all boxy towards the nose.. I'm sure this has something to do with the wind not catching it.. Even the low rockered nose of the new Jav must help with stopping the side winds catching it.. In fact the sloping sides near the nose have an almost pyramid shape that would cause wind passing over it to push the board down rather than try and lift and flip it.. The V3 Glide like you have in your vid is one of the best DW and flat water boards that I've used.. It's very forgiving with its big round soft rails but also very stable and fast.

Way to go DJ, leading by example as you appear to be the only one on the planet at this stage,
showing what this board can do in a DW environment by video.

I probably could have worded that question a bit better but I think you got the gist lol I went for a paddle on saturday on the onkaparinga river here with a few of the SASUPcrew and it was a howling NNwerly was fun going down wind on the bends but murder coming back to the cars there was a guy on a falcon and he had no end of trouble trying to keep his board straight. And it made me wonder about the Jav and it's nose. I did have a little trouble turning into the wind but nothing like he did. You are right the glide is a great board I'm loving it so far..

Thanks.. I still haven't looked at half the vid that I got that day.. There's almost three hours of it (two cameras) and it was pretty damn good the whole way..

I just chopped a little bit more out of what I had before removing it all from my computer.. With a little bit of the new transformers film music..
