In my musings for the perfect SUP quiver I feel the need for a big board.

I want to use it for flat water paddling, downwinders, surfing ripples, and surfing larger mushy onshore-ish lumps (in that order of priority).

The mushy lumps are bigger waves that are too sloppy to paddle early on a shorter board, and too big to get a late take-off.

The surfing will be straight line and trimming rather than turns (something like surfing a surf ski or ocean canoe).

Can people suggest suitable boards to look at? Most of the commonly available brands stop at 11'6", or go to pure flat water boards above 12'.

I'm thinking something in the 12-14' range. I am aware of the various Glides and the Starboard 12'6". I've tried the PSH Gun and it's not really suitable.

I have a mental image of steaming along in front of a 3-4' wall of mush on a 14' Glide but I would have to try that out first. I shared a break with a couple of surf skis and they had a whale of a time catching lumps and steaming straight in.

Thanks

The GSI guys have a new board about to be released called the Uber Cruise or something like that.. It's 12'6" I think and it might be just what you're after.

Gorgo, sounds like you need a custom. The ultimate hybrid allrounder . Dale Chapman has a lot of experience in all the areas you mentioned (err.. not sure about large mushy lumps). He would be a good person to talk to.

I would recommend a Dale Chapman DC14' or DC16'. Dale can make both with a steering system. Would suit all conditions you mentioned. PM me if you'd like his number.

My buddy just had the 14'6" DC made for similar purposes, particularly wanted something to paddle to offshore reefs and then surf them when there. Board had rails and rocker suitable for surfing and more strength than a pure downwinder but heaps of length.
Looked a treat and I am looking forward to having a paddle.
