Hi all, have been snapping paddles and doing patch up jobs for too long now so looking for a carbon paddle and am finding a huge variance in price between the big brands and not so big!

Are there major differences to be honest or are you paying big bucks for the nice decals and street cred.

The paddles I have snapped have been annaconda one, so no major surprises there, and a carbon with wooden blade unbranded that came with the package but all have broken where you'd expect joins etc, while I'm digging in big strokes to pick up a wave. Is that common?

I've had 4 paddles in over 5 years.

I lost one, sold one and the other 2 are in the garage.

Yep, buy a good one.

Likewise

Broke 5 just paddling in 2007/2008 then got a Quickblade have not broken one since. Yep QB do break but good warranty. Ke Nalu great too. Good back up just like QB. You get what you pay for

I can vouch for that. I snapped my QB and they express posted me a new blade from the states. got it yesterday set it in. all good. I think the piece of mind of back is worth it.

Jonesy reckons Ke Nalu are awesome too with warranty and or cost only on break replacements?

Yeah I can vouch for that. I did something stupid with one of my Ke Nalu paddles and under the "forever paddle" policy had a replacement part in my hands within a couple of days and at a substantial discount. I feel I was well looked after.

Cheers guys, did go with a big brand. Went a naish as a local dealer stocks em and believe in support the locals( not many down here in tassie) and also they are meant to be good with warranty. Went for the Makani 8.5 (no that's not borats swimsuit). Hoping it does the job. Always though the 100percent carbon would be the go, but for the price and benefits vs negatives it won out.

Looking forward to giving it a workout and hope it stands up to what I've got for it. From what I've read they are a pretty decent paddle for coin expended.
