Yesterday I took some pics.

Out with the old... Soon the east side of the marina with its old wood poles and wood pier will be gone.

In with the new... Soon the west side will have a floating concrete marina and they have planted all these steel poles with plastic covers on them.

They are also extending the rock breakwater at each end and they drive four truck loads of rocks onto a barge each time and float the barge to where they put the rocks.

It's taken a few weeks so far and I've heard that they need to get it all done before Sepember because that's when the penguins breed.

My friend Nic took this pic last week.

Thanks DJ.
So will this be good or bad for your daily paddling environment?
And by the way, we all know that you pick the good days to photograph these things for us - the days like yesterday when the rest of us us sitting in our office boxes looking wistfully out at the sunshine wishing we were out on the water, too...

I've spent a lot of time around Pt.Adelaide ,so St Kilda somehow seems familiar. There is something to be said for the look of the old rustic wood pylons, steel not so much...Waxer

Tempted to wag the day and escape the office box as well.
If only to hit DJ over the head with my paddle for antagonising us with his Autumn photos...glassy, glassy, glassy indeed...
So what time?

Thanks Craig...
The yellow Hawaiin shirt was on the Op Shop pile for a while, but I couldn't part with it...Thought it would match the board well.
Sorry about the black booties, very unfashionable, but the water temp is down to 14.6 now, and getting colder by the week.
Also had a rashie and short wetsuit pants on, so looking a bit dumpy - the forecast was for an increasing westerly, but even now there's no wind.
Without a doubt it will be cold and wet for the weekend....this is Melbourne...

Make note everyone - Hawaiin shirt should be compulsory dress attire when paddling with DJ...

We were talking about a city cruise up the yarra...maybe we could organise a Sunday "mid-winter hawaiin cruise", hawaiin shirts being mandatory...???
Lunch somewhere up at Docklands, then paddle back?

Okay Shirtboys,we need to get this sorted out now.
Forget raceboard categories, helmet banter and the PFD regulations
Come wintertime, which is gunna be real soon in Victoria, are we going to see

1. a "Hawaiian over wetsuit" fashion statement,

2. If yes then with or without Boardies.

3. Should I be buying Crocs to go over my wetsuit booties??

Just want a heads up, nothing like turning up to a downwinder in the wrong kit

Been rolling by on my way to work lately, had a bit of an explore this morning...with all the structure they're wrapping around that area in there it looks like it's going to be a bit of a flat water haven. Sprint series anyone?

Thanks for that DJ.
Once again I was sitting in my office box looking wistfully out the window yesterday...
However I did manage to make it out this morning at 7am for a quick paddle off Sandy beach.
Would have taken photos for you, but didn't really have the time.
Felt nicely invigorated afterwards, and ready for a day's work...
Alas I'm still sittin' here at 9.30 am poring over the forum instead of doing any work...
There's gotta be a better answer...

Tony [the local Italian guy who's in his mid 80's and there every day] and I were the first of the public to walk on the new pier when it opened yesterday.
