Today in Melbourne started cool and overcast and I picked Cam up in the city and our plan was to go for a paddle and then check out the Cadel Evens event at Federation Square back in the city.. Cam is from WA had not been to Melbourne before so on the way down to St Kilda beach we drove around the F1 track at Albert Park Lake.. It looks very different this time of year to how it looks on race day but still fun even in the little zook.
Once we got to St Kilda beach we could see dolphins everywhere.. The most that I've ever soon at one time.. We guessed that there were at least 30 or more and all in a small area.. It was an amazing sight so we took a couple of demo boards from the Zu and paddled out there only to find they had moved on.. We paddled under the pier heading towards Elwood and there they were.. everywhere.. It was hard to get a shot that showed them all at once but you would look ahead and see 6-8 and then look behind and see about the same.. and then left and right the same.. Very cool.
We paddled with the dolphins for about an hour.. Paddling back past St Kilda pier I showed Cam some little penguins in the rocks.. We then drove down to RPS and SHQ so Cam could check out the SUP shops here.. We then drove back into the city to check out the Cadel Evens action but got there a little late and everyone was leaving.. I still got a few pictures and said bye to Cam before heading off to get ready for work.. Here's my pictures from our big day today. DJ
After saying bye to Cam I went into McDonalds to get something to eat.. They were pretty busy and I noticed that one of the staff was a Muslim and wearing a burka.. I've never seen that before in a macca's and looked close and noticed it looked very untidy and even dirty compared to the other staff.. anyway.. I left because the que was so long and went into the Hungry Jacks next door.. and there was another staff member there also wearing a burka.. but hers looks much better.. So it's true.. The burka's are better at Hungry Jacks..
great pics dj...again. good way to start my day,i think i saw the puma laird mascot walking around in one of those pics. hope today is just as good for you,for all of you have a great day,i will
Wow those dolphins sure were close to you guys. I drove along Beach Rd around lunchtime and was looking out for them but didn't see any.
They would have been down at the south end of Elwood beach about then.. It's a bit hard to see the water from the road there.
We had the channel nine helicopter hover over us for a while filming us with the dolphins around us but I didn't see anything on the news.. I think Cadel took a lot of news time up..
Super cool how the Aussies support Cadel, HUGE turnout. I've followed his career since the MTB days. He's done it all now. Way to persevere Cadel, glad to see a good guy get his due.
Seriously if Dj ever gives up being in health care he could probably get a job with Tourism Victoria. I was just expecting to go down for a paddle and that's it, but got the whole tour. Thanks again DJ.

Hey Cam ,whats the idea of wearing a jumper under yor Doctor shirt. Bit cold mate?
I am training for the Hawkesbury Classic in October and have been lucky enough to strike up a bit of a deal with Under Armour for some compression gear, so paddling in long sleeves and sometimes leggings and feel like it makes a big difference.
