Mitch Coleborn

Mitch Coleborn was on British Columbia's Vancouver Island for a surfing competition when the incident took place. (AAP: Steve Robertson)

Australian professional surfer Mitch Coleborn could be jailed in Canada after he allegedly exposed himself to a group of people near a school.

Coleborn, 23, from Queensland's Sunshine Coast, was on British Columbia's Vancouver Island for a surfing competition when the incident took place after a night of drinking.

Police say he is alleged to have exposed his genitals in a public place to a group that included several children.

He has been charged with committing an indecent act and if convicted could be sentenced to six months in jail.

In addition his name could be added to Canada's National Sex Offender Registry.

Coleborn has been ordered to stay in British Columbia until his court appearance on November 1.

He is not allowed within 100 metres of a park or school and he must abstain from consuming any alcohol or drugs.

More to it than meets the eye? Sounds like less to it than meets the eye. D***head behaves badly and gets caught. Nothing to see here folks.

Sure but by the same token, one must take responsibility for one's bad behaviour. In this instance, I guess it wouldn't have been as much fun for the accused if his actions weren't anti social and illegal. He knew that what he did was wrong, that was the fun of it for him. He took a risk and got caught. Tough luck. I assume it's not so funny to him any more.

And as a surfer yourself, I would imagine you of all people would acknowledge it is not necessary to be drunk or behave badly in order to live or to feel alive.

Completely appreciate your sentiment woody. I drank beer this week at my grandfathers funeral, actually had a few too many and cried with other grown men. This was my first drink since I got married in september. Before that it was maybe 6 months. I don't drink as I like to get up early and paddle or surf or even paddle surf if the chips are down.

Point is though, I was young once, went to Uni, lived in a pub overseas and travelled to quite a few countries for fun and work. I can't criticise Mitch, I was young and foolish as well. I've done things I would not tell my mum about and running in the nude is one of them. I wouldn't do it now as a fat gut makes your other bits look even smaller and I may have grown up somewhat.

The saying is to be old and and wise you must first be young and stupid isn't it?

Yep spend a night in Newcastle jail 30 years ago for being drunk & pis###g on the police car but it was a fun night prior to being locked up. Can you remember the Star Hotel Cold Chisel sung a song about it.
