Hi.
I'm looking for some advice. I used to windsurf a fair bit 20 years ago, now looking to buy a SUP.
Usage - Port Phillip Bay mostly and sometimes in small waves down the coast
I am 177cm / 78kg

I was looking at a 10" and a 10"6' board and I'm finding it hard to decide.

Thanks in advance

If its more for surfing 10'
if more paddling 10'6

it s. nothing like windsurfing ...it's easier.
and less gear.

Thanks Tardy - I'm looking forward to less gear :)
Would 10'6 still go ok in surf or is it too big to maneuver?

It really depends on the board dimensions. I have the 10'6 Nalu and it is a great board in the surf. I would put width in the same importance category as length.

Yeah sure ..so long as you don't go to wide ,in a 10.6 ,my mate has a 32 x10,6 and it a pig in surf .
the 10.6 Nalu ,will ride over head waves and at 30 wide ,you can still throw it around .
i have a 11' Nalu at 31 wide and it has its limits on bigger waves ,but I didn't get it for that ,just cruising and small waves .
Im 94 kg so a 10.6 Nalu would fit your requirements .at 78 kgs .i can ride the 10,6 ,no problem ,too ,it's just I have 3 other
wave boards ,to pick from .

the 10.6 Nalu comes in a Gs ,only a single fin ,get the Gt for the 3 fin option and lighter carbon cloth construction .if interested in the Nalu .

Longer is better for distance paddling. You can surf just about any length board once you get used to it. I have a 16ft board I was surfing in 300m+ length chest-high waves this week, and I had a dry hair session. If it's 80% distance paddling then get at least a 10-6 and learn to turn a longer board. It's a skill all of its own. If it's just small waves you could even get something like a Jimmy Lewis M12-6 or a SIC Bullet 12. You'd enjoy paddling distances on it much more, and if you already have decent surf skills you should be able to handle it in small waves easily enough. Boards that size pick up just about any wave going.
