Hi, new to the sup scene, after a few goes on hire sup's thinking of taking the plunge and buying one.
So what I'm after is recommendation on what to look at and buy.
Would prefer 2nd hand but have noticed there are some "what appear" to be cheap packages out there, ie drift etc.
I'm 196cm 105kg, live near a lake so want to do some fitness paddling, but also want to ride up to 4ft waves as I spend a lot of time at the coast. I know that there is no perfect sup for both but would appreciate any advice on most suited,
Cheers Matt

+1 for the Fanatic fly. I have the 11'6 Fly and love it. It goes well in flat water, at least as well as an all-round board can and is a lot of fun in the surf.

Just make sure you get to see and feel the board before you pull the trigger. That board is a monster and it will be slow to turn and hard to carry.
On the other hand, it paddles really good and it's the kind of board you can keep forever... if you're into it.
Just make sure you don't buy it before you see it and grab it by yourself.
Have fun

Johnnys spot on....Demo, if possible
I would also urge you to try the older (pre 2014) Naish Mana (cheaper... since the new models are out)
It is a fine flatwater board and surfs easily in smaller waves. It is a very forgiving board that you can grow into and enjoy for years.
I also looked into the 10'6 Nalu.... In fact i went to buy a used one from a shop owner... ended up buying a sweet deal on a new 2013 Mana.... super happy with it.
The Nalu paddles better, but the Mana is more than adequate and it is a more responsive board in waves... plus the added width will help you ease into SUP surfing.
Have fun!

As mentioned above the big boards will meet your needs on the flat,in the surf however it depends on what you want to do,as the bigger the board the harder it is to turn, yet if your looking at just cruising on long runs these big boards are ideal, what ever you decide enjoy !
