in the end i got both Knowing i would get another board ( dont tell my wife ) or help move someone else's , they both work great and if you wanted to really deter someone use both one the one board. fairly cheap insurance but not foolproof if someone is prepared to rip out your leash plug or go to the trouble of unscrewing your fin they will get it , remember its a deterrent.

I've used these for about 5 years and they work fine.

http://www.stickprotection.com/pro_surf.htm

I use the shorter ones and the steel cables are rigid enough that I can wedge the loose ends under the strap and they stay nice and neat out of the way. No flapping or vibration.

I've also used them to lock the gate of a place we stay at a fair bit. All in the interests of discouraging the opportunistic thief.

If someone was keen to steal my board it would be relatively easy for them to cut the racks off the roof with a hack saw. As we say, these things are more of a deterrent than a thief proof system.

BTW I have a Subaru with roof rails. I put the tie downs around the roof rails and not around the cross bars. The cross bars are held on with a plastic clamp fitting but the roof rails are bolted into the roof. You would have to get through 30mm aluminium box section for the rack to come off the roof.

Hey gorgo,

I've been looking for something like this. Where did you get them. The online store has all three models marked as "temporarily sold out". Maybe they've gone bust.

RMAC, as ianr64 said SPT straps are by far the best lockable tie downs on the market, you can leave your Naish with the (dodge cover) on your roof or attached to a tree in the camping ground without concern.

I bought mine at Mordy. I think a mate bought some of the longer ones from SHQ a few months ago.

The best thing about them is that you can use them all the time because they are good tie-downs.

Sometimes the locking mechanism is a little fiddley. You have to have the cam wedged properly in place before the key will turn.

Also with Gordo's tiedowns ( http://www.stickprotection.com/pro_surf.htm ) you can strap one around your board down near the rear fins (off the roof of your car) and them use a conventional bike lock to fix it to something like a part of your tent or a caravan. It can't be romoved unless you remove the fins which isn't impossible but again a deterant.

This canbe handy if you need to park your car a little bit away from your camp site.

If you want to be really keen then use one of these:

https://www.kryptonitelock.com/products/ProductDetail.aspx?cid=1001&scid=1001&pid=1123

I used one of these before I got the SPT tie-downs. It just fit really snugly around the board I had at the time.

You could run the two SPT tie-downs through the ends of the cable then around something immovable.

The tie-downs don't stretch so you can't easily slide them off the board. The cable would stop you sliding them outwards away from each other.

The only thing you would have to worry about is a frustrated thief taking an axe to your board.

I've got them too-4m-you can use just the 1 strap only with the 4m ones-do the snaking wrap around the board and racks.

On a side note-Bruce Raymond was using them-had his car parked out the front of his place-3 boards on top-the buggers BROKE the top board in order to slide out the two below!

SHQ have the 2.4 one for $80-, I'm picking up a pair of 4 mtr ones tomorrow which I ordered. They might have got in more than the one set. The 2.4 will only do one SUB.
