I was supping the alley this morning and witnessed a truly ridiculous incident. The Northcliffe surf boat crew decided it would be a good idea to row out right through the middle of a crowded Sunday morning line up. They didn't do the safe thing and row out wide where most intelligent boat users make the bar crossing, they went straight through the line up, having two close calls with surfers riding waves while blowing through groups of surfers yelling at them to get out of the way. These guys are supposed to be responsible for ocean safety and then do something like this. Idiots.

This sort of thing is a regular occurrence in my area. These people are not the bronzed Aussie heros that are portrayed in the press. Whilst there are people who are not beach savvy and need a set of flags to swim between that is often where these fools leave their intellect.
I have on numerous occasions spoken to Patrol captains about their young charges doing donuts on the beach in their 4x4 rescue buggies. They drive away from the patrolled area and let loose. I have had several similar issues with the weekend warrior clubbie jet ski riders as well. It seems that these fools think that their clubbie membership gives them an exemption from being aware beach users.

Same thing happened when I took my 8 year old out for a surf Friday arv and a crew from bondi rowed out off the beach right in the middle of the pack turned around and took off on the same wave I'd just pushed him into. The sweeps oar broke and the boat skewed left missing him by an inch. Couldn't believe the stupidity of these f#%*tards. The question is when was the last time one of these useless f#%*ing things saved anyone if ever?! I bet they've hurt more than they've saved. They should be registered and have strict rules where they can and can't use them.

I have been eying off one of those beautiful old red Oregon sweep oars some local clubbies leave on their trailer as a replacement for my mizzen boom. Pity to hear it might break, or was it one of those bloody fandangled carbon things?

Had plenty to say to them in the water and am still digging carbon fibre splinters out of my hand after throwing their broken oar at them. They were very apologetic in the carpark afterwards. I reckon they'll think about what they're doing next time.

Man, don't get me started on the clubbies at Freshwater, I could write a novel with all the stupid and dangerous stuff that they do.

I have even been forced to write to council because of them putting the public in danger, not that it helped.

When I was growing up in my country of origin I was a clubbie for years and worked pro for a few years, and if we did 1% of the stupid stuff they do here we would have been banned from the clubs for life.

The Bondi guys are Professionals (blue shirts).....the other crew are volunteers (red/yellow). After a nationwide survey, it was found most rescues in the surf are conducted by boardriders. As such, Surfing NSW run Surfer Rescue 24/7- free CPR & rescue techniques for any Surfing NSW member over 15yo.. Im sure other states wil follow.

Whilst most Clubbies do the right thing there is always a group of wannabe policeman that think that they are above their own laws. It's why the police have psychological profiling of candidates. Unfortunately SLSC's can't afford that My understanding is that the appropriate authority to report it to is the water police. Don't give the clubbies a heads up, ring the water police and tell them that there are hoons endangering lives at the beach and there hopefully should be a couple of fella's on jet ski's turn up quickly. The clubbies will soon work out they are doing the wrong thing. It's not about punishing them, it's about getting them to practice what they preach. Be safe in the water.
