Broke my carbon wave paddle yesterday at Waikiki of all places. It broke at the neck where the blade meets the shaft. Anyone repaired a break like this or is it a waste of time?

Hi Robbo should be OK to fix.

I use old cut offs of shaft approx. 6 inches long, saw a section longways out of the cut off just wide enough so you can squeeze it into the break and glue it in, then use unidirectional carbon tape to bind over. You might have to shape one end of the cut off into a wedge to fit it in to the paddle blade, but should turn out stronger than new.

Cheers Bill

Just get a fibreglass shaft ......stick a carbon blade on the end of it......problem solved
Not rich enough myself to snap a carbon shaft every 3 months or so :)

I remember seeing a youtube video, where a guy repairs one using a bit of aluminium tube as an internal splint. He split the aluminium tube lengthways so it would fit inside the shaft properly, epoxied it inside the 2 bits of shaft, sanded down the join and then used carbon fibre to bridge the joint - looked like a pretty good way to go.
