Finally convinced Sheryl (Sam28) to get out on the water at the SHQ demo day after toatal hip replacement last year.

Despite great advice from DJ and me in the water, first attempt at standing up Sheryl fell and broke a rib. Ouch

Still, she's real keen to get back out there

Pete, please give Sheryl our regards and wishes for a speedy recovery! She seemed to be holding up alright when I spoke to you guys after her paddle. Hopefully this hasn't quelled her enthusiasm.

Let me know if you are heading out for a surf this week as I am stuck in South Melbourne and keen ti disappear for half a day.

Thanks Ronnie, Sheryl thought it was just bruised but the pain got worse over the next few days. Bit of a bummer.

Sheryl's never surfed in her life but this little mishap hasn't put her off, she is real keen to get to the stage where she can catch and ride a few waves.

Hey Pete,

Sorry to hear Sheryl hurt herself on the Sunday.

Kristi Nesh and Niki said they will all help Sheryl to learn.

Hope her rib mends quickly.

Jeez that's a bummer..

It just shows that when you fall don't try and fall in a way that you can grab the board.. Always fall away from the board.. Jonathan has done the same thing.

I'll invite you and Sheryl down to St Kilda with Anne and I one day.. The glassy water there is the best for learning and paddling with Anne would be good for her.

Hope she's feeling better soon.. I wish now that I'd got into the water with her to help her out.. It's a shame she didn't have a go before the onshore wind started.

I feel for you Sheryl. Did mine on a down-winder a few weeks ago, trying to not really fall in - it was cold! Since changed my strategy, fall as far away from the rotten board as possible.

Worst thing for me three weeks on is sneezing, I go into this weird foetal crouch thing to try to stop it hurting as much.

I can only begin to imagine what Phil has gone through since he did a really good job on his ribs.

DJ's flat water advice sounds spot on to me, your welcome to use my 12'6 Starboard when you are ready, doesn't get much more stable.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Thanks guys...I did tell Sheryl if she fell to go wide of the board. Unfortunately things don't always go to plan. Anyway alls good.

I have suggested that perhaps we should purchase the new Surftech Pierce Arrow Laird 14' Coastal Runner for her to learn on (I can see myself using it as fishing platform amongst other things but don't tell her)

Nice.. That new Laird Coastal Runner looks like a great board.

Anne loves the 12' Glide the best.

Hey Jonathon,

I am now 4 weeks down the track and still need to take several panadine fort each day. Sneezing coughing and sudden movement is still a whole new world of entertainment.

I went for a scan today and none of the ribs has reconnected yet.

They suggested could be another 8 weeks at least.

Just means more lens time for my stock photos and articles, so not so bad.

Geez Phill that's no good. I'm sleep deprived as Sheryl is in so much pain. At least you're getting some great piccies. Was going to come down last Sat but Sheryl wasn't up to it, same as the SUPVic BBQ on Sunday. Hope you heal quicker than expected.

Hey Lacey,

The Short boarder is Miles Fletcher he is a team rider with Strapper Surf and yup he rips.

This is Ben Cinsidine and he is an awesome local longboarder, Lee his dad is doing toes on the nose in the first shot. I believe Ben is also a team rider and won his age group in the Aussie titles last year.

Kristi is the best of the young SUPers by a country mile.

So we do have some serious local talent.

I want to get Kristi on Rich's new DC 8'10 but I cant lever his fingers of it.

I think she will totally blow it up on that board.

Gee...look's like broken ribs may well be the no. 1 health hazard for SUP'ers, especially for us down here where the water gets cold in winter, 'cos the natural reaction is to try to avoid a full dunking by falling onto the board. From now on I will be aiming to stay away from the board when I go down. I suppose, though in the surf you don't always have a choice about how you are going to wipe out, which I'm sure Phill knows all about!

Speaking of which, Phill what do you think it's going to be like down your way on the weekend? I'm hoping to have my new DC 9'4" (yes, another one is heading south!) by then and will be pretty keen to get it wet. I have just been checking the forecast on Swellnet and Sat looks to be no good for both east and west coasts, and there probably won't be enough swell to get into Westernport on Sunday. Is prk likely?

Hey Roscoe,

I think there is now another 9'4 or 9'8 going to be on the scene here soon.

Hmmm I thought they were supposed to be a secret

Well PRK may be on for sat or sun too early to tell yet.

Ring me later in the week for an update

Phill

PS Welcome to the DC Seriously Rips CLub lol
