And maybe the SUP community outside of the Gold Coast would like to know that one of people who has made a big contribution here over the years, as well as a person who's role it is to help others, was assaulted so as to wish him all the best. After all, it is all over the news here, so not exactly a secret.

As far as I am concerned DW should be applauded for doing his job, one that I guess would be pretty thankless much of the time. This just goes to highlight some of the crap these guys have to deal with.

Caught this on "The Project" tonight and was blown away.
Have met Phil a couple of times in Fiji and on the Goldie and what you see is what you get. A genuine, friendly, knockabout Aussie bloke.
Karma and or the cops should deal with the pr.ck responsible with extreme prejudice!!

Phil, I hope that you heal quickly, both physically and emotionally.
It is a real shame that in certain parts of our society this sort of behaviour is considered reasonable. Here we have a person going about the role that they are engaged to do and he is assaulted by a "lowlife" that has issue with the regulations that are in force. Not Phil's regulations but the GCCC regulations that Phil and many others are part of.
Not good.

public perception is of professional Lifeguards is one of a pretty cruisey job,but apart from the normal rescue and first aids we deal with spinals,suicides,dog bites and agro on a day to day basis.Many on one man beaches with no back up.

I'm sure Phill would have made mince meat out of him, unfortunately he's a law abiding citizen!!!

Something similar happened to a mate of mine who was a Newcastle Beach lifeguard. Some sus bloke looked like he was fondling himself while perving at young girls on the beach. When my mate challenged him the guy king hit him and did a runner. My mate, while of smaller build and easy-going, has done a lot of karate, so he must not have expected the response. Pity things like this happen when they are just doing their job. All the best Phil.

For those that do not know Phil (aka Iron Phil, Filthy Phil, Downwinder...) was arguably the first to bring a downwind board into Oz. I don't remember exactly when that was but he played a key role in the development of the sport over here.
