Hey Guys the womens draw is even more of an issue!

In Vicco for example this year we have only been allocated 1 female entry to the Aussies which rightly went to Emma.

Max from surfing Vic has applied to Surfing Australia for a second position for Vic and we will find out on Thursday

Kristi has surfed in almost all of the East Coast Womens events won 1 and finshed in the top 4 in all but 1 and may still miss out.

If Surfing Australia Wild Card to fill the womens spots I wont be a happy camper!

Phill

With every reason too!

Fingers crossed for Kristi. Let us know if she gets in.

After pretty much growing up around the boardrider club "scene" the thing I liked most when I started out on a stand up was the good vibes I got from everyone involved and the lack of bitchy poitics. Feeling a bit of déjà vu reading this thread

Mate there's a lot of sh!t stirring that goes on here that could be taken that way - it's usually done with good humour.

Sparx's original post though is very relevant to a new sport like SUP, where it is important to set up some consistent and fair rules regarding selection that will encourage participation in things like State Titles. Comps are not everyone's cup of tea but for those those that are into it, you want fair systems in place, IMO.

Hi Crew...Me again --- the culprit who started this .....anyway, feedback has been good and I spoke with Beau who will have a lot to do with running the event and he's super keen to make for a great event....we are going down the line on state representatives.....but we have quite a few positions to "fill" .....the wildcard thing I think exists because the SUP is fairly new as far as a sport goes.....there might not be the same opportunities to qualify in each state --- like just one event per state maybe....and if it's just one event and someone has other committments or whatever....then maybe allocating a wildcard sort of boosts the event a touch....We're very aware the field in place is exellent....and also be aware we'll incorporate repercharge rounds into this event as well.....along with a waiting period and mobility...so...all up...it should be a great event....In summary...

1.we're definitely going down the line on state qualifuications to a degree to fill spots
2. There's definietly no agenda to try and allocate SUP positions to longboarder as intimated in this forum
3. A quality event is what we want and there'll be repercharge rounds
4. We might still want to throw in a couple of wildcards in the mix!

Jacko/Dave Muir/Dane Wilson/RayCleave/Tom Carroll.....have all been mentioned as possible people we might offer wildcards to......

I hope we're not opening more cans of worms...especially year old ones....and also....no wild cards in womens.....just mens.......

maybe four yrs lacey but after reading this threat and longboarders getting attack just interesting to hear what one or two might say about a shortboarder x world champion in the comp most surf supp'ers would come from some from of surfing either short or longboards.

at the end on the day its a joke that only one female from each state can enter.

Funnily enough there are a few (or more) pro longboarders that are shortboarders that never made it. Ready for some flame action here. It is true though.

I wouldn't say it's a joke Mak, because there's nothing funny about it at all. I think the word you were looking for is "disgrace".

I mean, seriously? One female from each state? That's just ****ed.

For the record
I would pay money to watch Tom Carroll surf on anything, Dave Muir is a freakin legend, Ray Gleave surfs a mal the way a mal is supposed to be surfed, Dane Wilson is pretty bloody awesome at what he does as is Jacko. I would love to share a heat with any of them. But.... if it was to be at the expense of anyone who attended the State rounds and missed out I would be less than happy. Reading between the lines it looks like a lot of people have pulled out for one reason or another with no one to back fill those spots and again, between the lines, it looks like this has been a problem for SA, WA and Tassie. Just my opinion, but I think that should then open up more slots for the States that have already filled their quota but have members who attended qualifying rounds and are keen to participate. Read the Surfing Australia rules for National Titles qualification. Its all about fair not wow factor. Now if we can incorporate both fair and wow we have the makings of a ripper event. Speaking of fair maybe someone should take another look at the qualification criteria for the woman. Something NQR there

Personally I would be pretty pissed of myself if I went and competed in my selected state titles paid the entry fees membership etc and didn't get into the team and was next in line or even down the line a bit and someone who didnt go to all that trouble was given a wildcard over me who didn't go to the trouble of showing up to the event ? Even if they couldn't make it for what ever reason or even if they are a legend or what not fair thing is next in line should be offered the spot. Bloody cost was over 120 bucks to compete in the nsw titles and then accom etc. Well I said my 2cents maybe crap maybe not?

Dicky Cram was a regular to Maroubra in the 80's as the surf at Bondi was always Sh--. He ripped like nobody else. I recall sitting on the rocks with the boys watching him surf then go home and watch The Performers.
Unfortunately, this vid does'nt have the original music (Burnin down the house by Talking Heads).

here you go .

I know nothing about anything .

But in other sports any one can enter if their game ,or if they have the entry fee .

The cream rises to the top .

Why limit the numbers , just have a bigger event .

or is it that , " i,m to fingg good to compete against that jerk " ?

or " oh crap joe bloggs lucked it in in the 1/4 finals with a 10 second barrel "

and now i,m out .

or, " he didn,t compete in the state titles , so he car,nt compete in the nationals ", oh really!!!
