Yesterday I drove down to Cape Schanck to do some sup exploring and maybe paddle across to Bush Ranger Bay from the Cape Schanck lighthouse.

This is the road down to the lighthouse.

Looking back northeast and towards Bushranger bay in the distance.



I knew it was going to be a bit of a hike getting down to the water.



A quick rest as the walking track turns into a small trail.



Another rest.. Jeez.. Why did I have to bring my big board.



Then the trail had steps.. and wishing I had a smaller board.



Steps turned to stairs.



About now I'm wishing my big 11'6" AST was a little 9'3".



The boardwalk seemed to go on and on.



Half way down and looking left.



Looking right.. Ohh.. a nice little wave.. bonus.



Are we there yet?



Almost there and an interesting sign.



Down at last.





About now I was glad I wore my Crocs.



On the water at last.





I first paddled around the point to where a couple of fishermen were.





I then paddled around to this big rocky thing that's the end of Cape Schanck.



I then headed back and into the sun.



The wind seem to come and go as the water went from rough and bumpy to glassy.



About now I'm thinking Glad I've got my big board.. It was getting really bumpy and I was headed for that little beach way ahead at Bushrangers bay.



The water changed color as I got closer.



Waa-hoo!.. I made it.



There must be a little creek that runs down to the beach here.





Thinking about heading back and waiting for the waves to drop.





Time to go.. I'm looking forward to coming back here in Summer.. There's no other way to get to this nice little beach.



Almost back.



Seeing rocks popping up all around is a bit of a worry and there were still waves coming through.



Looking back towards the little beach in the distance.. It was much further than I thought it would be.. and no walk in the park but still good fun.



Glad to be back on hard ground but the thought of carrying my big board all the way back up was not good.. Next time I'll use a carry shoulder strap.

Coastline is not too dis-similar to Wales.

Jeez you've got good eyes Greenie.. .. Yes they are people and I was wondering how the hell they got there myself.

Maybe they live on a farm nearby or they cut across from the Bush rangers bay walking track that goes along the cliffs.. They were gone when I got there.

Google maps it and you'll see what I mean.. Someone else might know of another way into there.

Hey DJ, there are a couple of walking tracks: one that follows the creek up to boneo Rd - about 2-3km long and another that follows the cliff to Cape Shank. One school camp we walked from Flinders to Cape Shank along the rocks and up along the cliffs through private property over a couple of days - but I don't think this is open now.

I used to go spear fishing at Bushrangers Bay, I remember spearing a huge butterfish while diving there years ago - it was too heavy for me to carry back and after that i never spear fished again.

Btw loved your adventure, I've been looking forward to doing the same paddle some day.

There is also a good left around the corner that is good on SE wind. But you wouldn't be able to get a SUP down the track. Usually about 30% smaller than open beaches.
