Some great runs by the local crew and especially Chris Bertish making it look all too easy. Warning - lots of Glides on yellow boards.....

(Hay Kaffir) Great Vid PeterP a camera on a support boat always gets the best footage.
Pumping conditions how good was Chris's one minute runner styling reminds me of the Pai'lol Channel Maui to Molokai run with one minute runners being the normal with maybe one stoke of the paddle every ten seconds just to stay in the huge trough.
How long did it take to paddle to 10km I'm guessing 45 minutes
Did you see me mate Bruce out there he loves Cape Town (the best Caf'e on the planet) he was over in Western Australia yesterday morning having breakfast on a skin-diver (poor Bugger)
I'd love to do that run on my f18 or Bullet you'd be just flying out there but I'd be s###ing myself as Bruce would have his eye on me.

Out of all the downwind vids I have seen on Maui and other parts of the world. This to me is the best out there. Usually don't watch 10 minutes of downwind but watched this one. Great work.

Awesome! So many great places around the world for Downwinding and they all make the Gold Coast look pretty lame. Would've loved to see a Bullet out there or even the Javelin 17...

That was insane Peter, so envious of those conditions. I am guessing that is the summer Sou Easters? I lived in Cape Town for 9 months in '84 and the radical wind is one of things that sticks in my mind, along with the pumping swells and 8 degree water in Summer

the goldie might not be the best place in the world to dw, but it can have it moments.

however, not too many places where you can have a sick morning surf, then go dw ing after lunch and maybe if your lucky and keen can get another late arvo surf in

thanks guys - I think we're just damn lucky to be sitting on this downwinding goldmine right on our doorstep. As we speak it's 2pm and the wind is gradually increasing and it normally nukes from 4pm onwards till after dark - perfect for the working man as the best time to do the run is between 5-7pm!

I've tried it on the 17' Naish Glide a few times but quickly returned to the 14' as the long nose just seems to get stuck in the short period swells - and although its pretty quick it doesn't feel quick due to this braking action every time the nose pokes in.

Not sure if other 17-18footers would handle it better - no one has any here so we don't know any better.

Record time for the run is 43min something - by Chris Bertish...

That's right up there with the best Bill Boyum vids from Hawaii - brilliant. Some things you just can't capture with a GoPro.

Great vid.

The scenes with Table Mt in the background really helped make it.

Great Vid. Are there any Oz spots that would be as good as this?
The Mandurah cut run would have to be right up there.

Filming from a support boat gets all the action yes much better than a GoPro

akhawk I know of one spot that is just GOLD on the East Coast 20kms of pure enjoyment I call it mini Maliko all you need is a South Swell and a South Wind or SSE wind. Brunswick Heads to Hastings. Just use caution when getting towed out by your Jet-Ski support boat holding a 17ft SUP.
I've had it 4-6ft South Swell with a 25 knot SSE Wind

Stitch - we normally go Milnerton lighthouse to Big Bay which is 10km on the dot - but we can also go Milnerton Lagoon Beach to Melkbos - then it's 20km. Entry at Melkbos is a little sketchy with big swell and the last 800m you paddle across the wind a bit and through kelp - otherwise great run. On the map it show Lighthouse to Big Bay
