I'm in need of a new paddle. I was looking at a composite ie fibreglass shaft and carbon blade. Does anyone have opinions on these as opposed to full carbons? Is a full carbon that much better or are the differences only fairly small,

if u can afford it go full carbon.... i tried a couple of composites next to my shak'pu and i may as well have been using the homemader,, they just felt dead

..... some of the other full carbons didn't feel much better....try b4 u buy

......

the back is on the mend, can walk now and stand up straight ...yay...off to the physio today, hopefully get a green light soon 2 catch up 4 a paddle

Cheers Windy. Tried a c4 last week and that felt great. I thought the main difference between that and the old alloy was just going to be weight. I was amazed how much power it had allowing to catch more waves by not falling off the back and also only needing 1 or 2 strokes to get onto it. The main reason I'm looking at the composite is $'s.

Go the Kiakaha - much cheaper than the main brands and top performance.

You can get a full carbon for not much more than a composite

yeah they do seem pricey for what they are,, but they're worth it.

have you tried the bloke on this forum (sorry forgot his name), think he's in SA, who makes custom paddles,

i'm searching my useless memory banks and guesstimating they were made from wood/balsa with a carbon wrap and at a reasonable price too

Is there any difference in strength between the composite and full carbon or is the difference in the performance? Also is one easier to repair than the other if it cracks?
