Not sure if this has been mentions before....

The common carry handle is the recessed "slot" usually with 4 finger "holds". Why not make it a 5 or 6 finger hold, providing more flexibilty.... once deck grip, leg ropes, repairs, etc are done, all can upset the original balance point of the board.

And since there is a reasonable element of human involvement, even two productions boards can have a marginally different "centre of gravity".

My Glide 14' is a fraction nose heavy (from new), meaning the "4 finger slot handle" actually needs to be 3-4cm further forward. But a "5 or 6 finger slot handle" would have it covered !!

PS - I know we only have 4 fingers on each hand !!! But I think you can see my point !!

Good idea.. Even my new Jav is a little out and I end up using two fingers at the end of the hand hole.

They also need to make them wider at the base of the hole so your fingers can wrap more and not want to slip out.

It's not rocket science.

Yes, the finger wrap option would be good too. I've seen it raised here before.

Lummers / DJ / Rich, can you filter this info back to Naish ??? Likewise for other manufacturers...

The Jav (Javelin) is rumoured to be 20-30% quicker than a 14 Glide, but Glide is better in chop, wind, swell etc.... Both are great boards. Glide is actually very versatile. Almost the one stop shop for boards.... flat, downwind, and small surf all covered, and has slightly untapped big rolling bombora wave potential....

But both just need slightly longer hand holds !!

It's also been mentioned that there is a reasonable weight in the paint also.... which is yet another layer of weight to upset the "theoretical" balance point.

It's not rocket science DJ !

Hey Simondo,

I believe the Javelin for the lighter crew could be used for the downwinders.

I also believe that changing the fin on the javelin can produce remarkable results for the bigger guys concerned with the stability.

Hand hold wise i like your idea about the 6 or 8 x finger holds but I would also like to see them narrower and internally routed as DJ suggested.

Some hand holds on the market create small wet wells

Yes Phill, all of I sudden I'm thinking 8 finger holds, and thinner slot. 8 would allow you the option to carry with both hands, and make it easier to swap hands / arms, if carrying with 1 arm.

My sub-6 kg 9' board still makes me laugh out loud at how easy it is to handle. The climb up the steps was no effort at all and holding the board at arm's length while sliding it into the bag is so easy.

So far it is also the toughest board I have owned with no signs of any kinds of dings .. yet.
