I am just wondering if anyone else here has a system for carrying a sup on a dual cab ute without proper roof racks.
Currently i have a home made rack that i place in a holder attached to the tailgate. i lay the board on that and use the sports bar with padding for the front rack and tie down to both. The back section sits lower than the sports bar though, to stop the board from resting on the roof of the car.
I just dont feel like this is the easiest way though.

Is the best way to just get some proper racks put on or do any of you guys/girls have a system that works well?

I should say board is an 8'5 mana

Thanks everyone!

It's a bit obvious, but I would have thought just in the tray, with 3 foot sticking out the back? That's all I do with a dual cab and 9'2 combo.

Scott.

Attach a flag coz the more officious constables will pull you over

In QLD you are allowed 1.2m protruding before any flags etc are required, unless load is not easily visible.

I'd be more inclined to have the pointy end hanging out the back of the tailgate rather than facing up into the headwind.

You can buy custom padded mounts for your tailgate from the usual suspects, or just use regular tie-downs and a couple of towels for padding as a cheaper option.

I'm sure there's probably an engineer or two lurking on the forums ready to correct me on wind velocity and optimum downwind curvature of your setup though.

I know it seemed like a stupid question, i was just a bit concerned about how far over the back it hung.
I drove this morning with chucked some padding on the tail gate and pulled the tonneau cover over what i could nd it went fine, not a problem.
Cheers though!

I just welded up a 50 x 50 T-Bar style rack and swapped it over with the towbar when I wanted to use it. Works really well.
