Chuck Patterson has also been doing it... Sure it's cool but also a bit of a joke in my book.

Just think about the twisting forces on each leg in a wipe-out..

You're asking for serious knee injuries and you could come up for air with a leg pointing in different directions.

I don't want to be a kill joy but we were doing that 20 years ago on a set of double and single trick skies. Pretty nasty falls on the doubles your legs get seperated and the skies do heaps more damage to your body when they hit you compared to a board.

I would hate to see it catch on , another group of none surfers hitting the bombie. It would be circus with the normal tow crew and peolpe paddling in.Plus these guys would be towing at twice the speed.

Just when you think things couldn't get any crazier in the surf.......these things arrive.

Imagine these at the Alley on a sunday morning with the rest of the circus acts we regularly encounter such as surfboats, windsurfers, kitesurfers, powerboats, surf skis, kayaks, OC1's, OC6's, snorkelers, catamarans, old guys swimming in speedos,Lacey demoing his latest board, mals, shortboarders and of course us Sup guys.

when i am king, you will the first against the wall

i'm a keen snow skier, but haven't done it for 2 years- sups take my money, anyway i think every snow skier/ surfer has thought about it- skiing in waves. i found some chuck patterson footage -he was using poles too. he had a helmet cam on so that was interesting- kinda looked like he was powder skiing in that footage
cheers
ps every snowboarder tells you should be boarding, but there is some big name surfers in those clips who ski

I saw this a while back when the guy doing it (Cody) posted it up on a ski forum I frequent.

I spent a season or two boarding, but skiing was my first and stronger love. It's arguably harder. A bit like comparing boogie boarding and surfing, snowboarding is generally easier to progress through the intermediate stage and there's a definite cliche of teenage kids with way oversized jackets and pants hanging low with their jocks showing. Beginners can pick up the look straight away these days:

But at a high level boarders and skiers can get on just fine. I've had plenty of boarding friends, and both get up and down the mountain in comparable time with the right equipment.

Wow Legion, I thought you would have ripped into these guys. Something different in the surf.

I was looking forward to your post.

I guess it's little threat at the moment of making it to WA beachs.

I'm also surprised that you don't hate snow boarders seeing as you ski.

10 out of 10 for imagination and effort. Good to see some guys have a really silly idea then pull it off. The French would have done it better.

4 out of 10 for execution. I would have liked to see at least one carving bottom turn or a re-entry throwing some spray on any size wave. Even the best shots really just showed them using the momentum from the tow then coasting along.

1 out of 10 for a future. It doesn't seem to add anything that you can't do better and more easily with other toys.

check some of these photos outchuckpattersonsports.wordpress.com/2010/06/23/exploring-the-new-frontier-of-wave-skiing-part-2/
not a bad start. with the anglulation you can get with skis in the steeps i would think they could be capable of very deep steep barrels at hi speeds
cheers

I don't think they'll hold an edge unless they use fins.

I'm not a big fan of the low pants wearing park rats (on boards or skis). But at least it keeps them away from where I am. I'm not a big fan of intermediates where they don't belong, endangering themselves and others. And intermediate snowboarders are more likely to go where they don't belong than intermediate skiers. But out where you're more likely to see me everyone's friends. Except when boarders posthole the skin track, but you'll find splitboarders will get equally upset at that.

At least we can unite in our scorn at snowbladers.
