I've been SUPing for about 2 years now.
I should have been a SUP salesman a year ago.
Mouthing off to anyone that would listen about how good it was.
Now I have realised the error of my ways.
I went out again today with initially only 2 prone surfers out. It was almost embarrasing.
I caught wave after wave again (as you do) while they both struggled to reach a quarter of my wave count between them.
No wave hogging, standing wide of them and allowing them first attempt.
The afternoon surf was similar with about a dozen out.
I stood there and thought. This is what it must have been like when the first cars appeared. People staunchly sticking to their faithful reliable steeds despite what in time proved an obvious advantage.
I try and keep my peace now in the presence of prone riders and let them labour on.
I do NOT want another dozen SUP's at my local break.
I suggest the SUP section of Seabreeze be closed down.

haha, love it. i'm always on the lookout for pronies struggling or missing waves, much better than fighting it out with a dozen sup-pers at the alley. i'm still polite, i just take all the ones they don't seem to wont
cheers

You could catch 100 waves every day with the same prone guys watching
and they would be still too stubborn to have a go (this is a generalisation).

I'm fine with that, we will probably always have haters of SUP but this means
we are less likely to get too many SUP's in the line-up.

I love Victoria. I was in Northern NSW last weekend and the conditions were absolutely spot on - the problem was that there were hundreds of others out, everywhere I went. I ended up at Cabarita and being on a new board and not wanting to get in anyone's way I spent most of my time thinking about everyone else and not getting much action myself.

Today we went out - it's the weekend, clear skies and a bit of wind and 10C colder, than up north. I paddled 1km up the beach from the regular break at Pines which had two people out (and is also a very easy going sort of space, even when crowded) and found an awesome break that we had all to ourselves. I don't know how, but this is often how my surfs pan out here.

I doubt I could enjoy this activity as much as I do having the anxiety with the other people I share waves with.

G'day Danny
Why here?
The trees grow straight up.
The dog hasn't been sandblasted.
The sharks are smaller?
LOVE the glass offs in the afternoon.
Missing the friendly folk of Gero though.

Ps I went and saw Sam at the SUP shop over here and swapped the 11'2"for a 10'5". (good deal) Best decision I have made for yonks. Just that few inches less means so much more maneuverability while still retaining glide and float. I've tried smaller boards and can't see the point. It becomes too much like hard work.

You know what Scotty.
I would have agreed with you once.
Gero appears to be somewhere that you wouldn't want to be.
The same can be said of Derby in the north of WA. Mudflats and crocs.
Yet the people that live in both those places laud where they live.
Something to do with community coming together in an environment of hardship I suppose.
I genuinely miss the helpful and kindhearted people of Gero

Yeah it does have its downside (crime/wind) same as everywhere else.
But we got plenty of waves no crowds and no Port Adelaide supporters.
All good
I worked at Roxby fly in fly out for the last 2 years so I have a fair idea on what STH aus is like. Thats why I live here

Yer I know what you mean, there is a really good community of windsurfing people there that are great to have as a social network.

I have spend a heap of time in gero so I was more refering to the small town/large town mentality that can be painfull.

Plenty of Port supporter were I live, no worries about them Worrier.
