The Coast of Origin just completed with the Short Board Tag Team. This has been a fantastic competition with SUP, Longboard and Short Board across all divisions. The organisation from Surfing Qld and and the way the clubs have got involved has been fantastic. SQ has some great plans for some stand alone SUP events in 2012 on both the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.
I spent a number of hours on the commentary and was also impressed with the effort of judging. They were very professional in ensuring they were judging SUP correctly.
Well done to all those who put the effort in and got involved. From the Sunshine Coast end it has been great to see how the appreciation of SUP has grown through this with all the clubs up here. They are interested in having SUP at some of their main comps and not as just a add on or thrown in but a scheduled event.
The other benefit I have found is how the short board clubs are really appreciating the ability of the SUP Surfer. This will have a flow on effect in the local breaks and assist with stopping the pathetic SUP bash by some when not justified.
Well the results were close. Very close. Sunshine Coast SUP won the SUP Comp. I not sure which was champion Short Board Long Club!! Overall the Sunshine Coast region won the whole (SUP, Longboard, Short Board) competition by 1 point. Great effort by all competitors. Look forward to 2012 as I believe this is the start of a format that will grow and Grow.
I will organise to have the trophy on display.
Well done all.
See you next year SUPSA. Now we must train harder so you don't kick our backsides at the Ocean Addicts BOP in November 20.
