Hi all,
Can people please help with advise on the types and advantages of the coil legropes they are using.
Am looking to change and as ussual there is heaps of advice available here.
I am now paddling a Fanatic Fly 12'6'' usually ocean and some flatwater.
I note that some of the coil legropes state that they are not for waves. I am wondering if this includes runners.
Thanks ET.

That restriction would mean for surf use. Any reputable brand coil leggie at the thicker end of the spectrum will be fine for DW. I fall in a lot on DW runs and have well-and-truly tested both my Balin coilies.

I can tell you what not to get - the FCS one it has way too little coil, on my 14'er it still drags in the water just a bit, frustrates the crap out of me, waiting for it to snap so i can tell minister of finance I need a new one for safety

Perhaps i should start using it in the surf, my tanker and that pissant thing shouldn't last long together

PS - my coil leggie (from Balin) has been going strong on my big 17 footer. It's held on in 35knot down winders, and it has also been absolutely fine in 1-1.5 foot surf runners. Let your body flow with the natural pull on the leggie... It's 7mm chord (rough dia.), so it will handle a beating or 3.

Hey ET,
I posted a similar topic about two months ago.
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Coil-leggie-for-race-board/?SearchTerms=coil
After reading all the comments I went with a half coil half straight, Balin brand.
Only used it a few times but seems to work fine for me.
I never have really tested it though.

I tried doggies suggestion.
The red matched the colour of my board but the nylon rope chaffed my neck to much....

I'm still very happy with mine.. and it's been a few years now of constant use (both surf and down-winders) without any issues.

Thanks for your help on this guys and also the reference to past articles. I find all this very helpfull.
I have just bought a full coil, calf model and will give it a baptism tomorrow.
You would think there would be a large range on the Sunshine Coast but I have visited six shops to get what I wanted and then I had to compromise a bit.
Three of these shops were specialist SUP shops.
Maybe the southern end of the coast has more range.
Oh by the way DOGGIE, you make me laugh. That's a good thing.

I got mine from Goodtime at Woolloongabba.
They have almost every brand and type of legrope there is.
