Ok its a bit off the traditional topics we discuss here but seriously you scandelous Melbournites should stand up and be counted!!!! Its like Kevin Rudd...........full of holes. Shame spiral.

Now I reckon 2007 should go to Manly - just like in Olympic sport when the drug cheats are caught.......perhaps Parra can have last year - but I am live in Manly so am not too bothered about them - they can fight their own battles.

I have always held Melb up at the top of the tree when it comes to sport......lets hope this is not the tip of the iceberg for you Victorians.............

If so ummmmmmmmmmmm

Hey Ted,
wouldn't all the crew involved in the Storm both on and off the field be here from interstate anyway?,

I don't reckon the AFL would take premierships off a club,it would be to embarrassing for the league,

they'd probably just cover it all up,

Cheers.

They are a sham, and they will struggle to get anyone to the games now, most people just don't care down here, they will end up folding. That CEO who is allegedly the mastermind behind this must get sacked from the Rebels, otherwise I will take no interest in them at all, which is a shame as they wear blue and white hoops, two teams, one jumper, GO CATS!

I knew they had won 1 premiership, then they mentioned 2, I thought, yeah, that's right. Then they mentioned 2007 & 2009, and the penny dropped ! The surf coast was wrapped up with Cats Premierships at that time

Let's give the premiership to the team that came 2nd then !! Stupid idea....

AFL just hit Carlton with big fines.... I understood The Blues were doing a little cap rorting even in 1995 when they won.... I've also heard that Gary Ayres' Mrs was the highest paid secretary/receptionist in the land in the 1980's, working for Hawthorn FC.

They don't even get on free to air tv here in Vic. NRL may regret this massive sanction if they really want to maintain this extremely modest presence in Melbourne. Club will surely fold and there won't be many mourners.

Hey Thommo going by that photo you resemble many a front rower. All codes have a great level of skill and excitement, having grown with AFL but now living in Rugby territory, both codes, you get to appreciate any game once you get to know the rules and the teams, slagging of other games is just ignorance and the we Vics are definately ths worst at it.

Yes I love union first and foremost - without a doubt. Actually do not get me started.

I am sure that this goes on in all codes where a cap is involved - not by every team but I would suggest the vast majority who have supporters with cashola who care.......personally I am just annoyed that it has come from the sporting capital of the world.......now it will be known as the sporting disgrace of the world. Caught cheating. Lets not forget he came from an AFL background - went to league and is now at the Melb Rebels - a union team. We are all tainted so it seems. A crying shame - lets hope that the book is thrown at those responsibile......I really felt for the News Chief Ecec - who took it on the chin and fronted when many others would have run scared. Top effort.

I do not know what all this means for the long term......but in the short term its a bad look - I wonder how many supporters will really turn up. Especially in that flash new stadium that the Vic government poored so much cash into.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Anyway its still flat here in Sydney and the outlook is not great - that is the real story. I am just a frustrated person getting no WAVES!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Huey bring it on.............

Melbourne Storm.....yeah we had a real big one the other night! It was crazy!
I got almost 30ml in the rain gauge in 30 minutes.

Seriously though it's not the end of it for the (apparently) 5 guys behind it all. There's a thing called fraud they were
talking about on the radio before that might see them individually get into some serious trouble. So they should!

We are all kidding ourselves though if we think this isn't going on to some extent at all/most AFL and NRL clubs.

Yeah Ted, agree with you 100%. They would not be the only club doing it. We have had a bit of salary cap controversy up here with the Titans recently as well. It will be interesting to see how the Rebels deal with their new CEO, I heard he has lost the Job. I'm just glad it's finally safe to declare myself a Reds supporter again. Between the Reds and the Wallabies, I'd almost forgotton what it was like to support a winning side.

Hey markaavi63, I certainly do resemble an ex front rower, especially the head. But I'm not. Still an ex pig though, flanker was my position.

For me "sport" is something you do. Watching somebody else do stuff is not sport, it's spectating.

To warm to my topic "sports" that involve tactics and rules and keeping score are wrong. All that stuff does is encourage cheating. Competitions are supposed to identify the person who is the best, and arguably, encourage the rest of the field to participate and raise their personal level.

Instead you get all these team sports where armies of tacticians work through the rules trying to find ways to bend them to their advantage. It is cheating pure and simple. It's a touch ironinc that Melbourne Storm is in trouble for cheating when they all cheat in different ways all the time (spear tackles, head high tackles, assaulting guys behind the play, faking injuries, etc etc)

They should all **** off and leave us alone to actually do stuff. Maybe lock them in prison with a bunch of exercise bikes to keep them amused.

I suppose they do us a small service and keep some people inside watching TV and drinking beer instead if cluttering up the beach and the surf.

What a travesty. At least the NFL have done the right thing by throwing the book at them. Bloody cheats.

Wish the AFL had the guts to do the same thing with Carlton after they cheated their way to the 95 premiership. This is why I prefer to play sport than watch it.

Most Victorian's ignore NRL.... there's always been a 'mexican stand off' between AFL & NRL. Most people are in one camp or the other, and not many fence sitters....

And yes, it's probably true that Melbourne is the sporting capital, for a lot of stuff, but obviously not NRL. But, Pubs will play Origin Footy, but hey, there's not much other sport going on, on those Wednesday Nights !!! Plus, the Biff is above average during Origin usually !!

Well thats really the problem (for me) isn't it...when the Reds are playing well Australian rugby goes well..........and you boys are playing unreal this year. Its hard to believe that it is possible with your coach.....when he was at the Tahs and in France he played ugly field position and defence tactics........for some reason (and a damn good one for the spectator) he has decided to let the players play the game in the true spirt it is meant to be played. Hats off. With a world cup looming its fair to say I am getting a little concerned - especially with your halves pairing.

Although I could not care less ....

The Storm should just go ahead and win all the games for the rest of the season. That would completely steal the thunder () of whatever team goes on to win the final.

Now let me see if I understand this:
- there's a salary cap as to how much the club can pay the players.
- there's no limit to how much the players can earn through sponsorships and endorsements.
- Storm got sprung negotiating the sponsorships and endorsements as part of the salary package.
- the other teams do it but don't get caught.

Maybe it's all a big con job to raise the profile of rugby in Melbourne.

I spent the long weekend on the South Coast of NSW with a group of die hard Manly supporters who first went to see the Sea Eagles with their mum and dad 40 years ago. They told me that many of the traditions at the matches with the fans now are the same as they were then.

My point is that new teams like the Titans and especially Melbourne trying to establish a fan base with a clearly unfamiliar public it is important, no it's essential that you have some success. Fans won't come to see a losing side for long. Manly can survive without a win for a while, the same people have supported them for eons, it's almost genetic to love them and other sides with history like this.

Every player had to move to Melbourne from QLD and NSW and despite the love for your homelands you Vicco's have to most of us up here it is a bad move. To be politically incorrect here I would ask if it wasnt for immigration would the population be reducing in Melbourne?? Most of you seem to be assisting the infrastructure strain of SE QLD. And yes, I was born in Melbourne, Williamstown to be exact, when it was rough, not posh.

Anyway back to the point. I truly believe that the NRL should relax the cap on new clubs for the first years in the league. They have to recoup set up costs, gain a fan base and momentum to hopefully survive for another 50 years. It might seem unfair but just as fans will stick with the old clubs, so will players. Did Melbourne do wrong? Maybe, but only as it truly was essential to survive in the heartland of AFL to have some success and maybe to keep players so far away from their families happy.

I am happy that so many peopole turned up to cheer them on. Hats off. I do not think this will continue throughout the rest of the season.

I also agree that teams that are new to the comp (Storm are not though) should be given provisions to gain support in places that are not natural strong holds (the swans get provisions under the cap in the AFL).

There are too many league teams in Sydney anyway. Maybe they should just chop a few and then the cap could be increased. For now in my opinion there are too many teams chasing too few sponsorship dollars.

However - the Storm knew the limits and CHEATED under the set of rules they agreed to play footy under. So as far as I am concerned they have assmebled a team that they would not have been able to if they had played by the rules. So essentially until they unwrangle themselves (and this goes for past permonances as well) I have nothing positive to say about them.

The whole idea about competetive sport like this is that both teams play under a set of rules - so that there is an even playing field when they cross that white line. In some cases its just the game rules and in other cases its the competion rules as well.........sadly the Storm tried to put one over the opposition and CHEAT which is not fair on the others.

On the positive side - we had waves over head high on the northern beaches today and for that I am extremely greatful. About time.
