Presumably he still needs to raise the money to buy the shrink ray to make you small enough to ride those waves. Or have I missed the point?

PT Woody, I'm actually half excited. I wonder how it would go at a bigger scale....
www.surfthering.com very amateurish website, but the idea potentially has merit.... but, there will never ever be anything as amazing as riding a totally natural wave in the ocean...

If you build it they will come if the they can build an indoor ski feild in the middle of the desert I'm sure this will be no problem , what happens when fall off how do you get out.

Can not believe you made me look at this again!

I think that Greg Webber - of surf shaping fame also had a few ideas re wave pools where it was a single wave that was centered. Almost like the flow rider but it went around in a circle.

Its a shame that Ron Jon's surf park concept never took off. As Piros says - it should be a possibility.

My guess, for a bigger scale... if / when you fall off, I guess you swim to the outside of the ring, to the deep water channel....

Not sure how they plan to generate the waves at full scale though... I think the concept needs bigger scale exploration, with assistance from high end hydraulic, mechanical, and mathematical engineers.

I think the slot things on the outside ring, are minimising back-wash / or rebound... ??? But I think that is also the wave generation mechanism.... you could maybe have rope ladders in the channel.... The biggest challenge is the full scale working version, and prior prototypes, not getting in & out !

If the wave is good enough, people will risk life and limb (if need be) getting in and out !!!

Someone's gunna make a lot of money..

DJ

Attendance fees
At $30 per surfer per hour gross income would be $30,000 per 10 hour day. Including night surfing, 20 hours of operation could generate $60,000 per day, 365 days a year.

Bridge??

It breaks on the inside of the ring so would obviously be shallower on the inside. So you could just get washed into the shallow area and then walk out. Then take a bridge back to the outside where you would jump back in, paddle across into the path of an oncoming wave.

The concept is definately possible (IMO) but the dollars to make a number of prototypes until they get it right would be enormous! I'm guessing it would need to be at least 20m to 30m wide and the circle would need to be at least 100m in diameter.

I understand the wave part, but how would they make the wind offshore all the way around the circle??

I'd pay $50 for a few hours or $100 a day. Lift tickets at the snow are $100 per day now so I'm guessing a lot of other would pay the money.
