If you haven't done any shaping before a good way of learning the skill is to first cut out your board/outline.
Then with the scraps of EPS try & shape a model SUP, it will require the same steps & probably more care to do it well, light grade EPS is **** stuff to shape, it will take practice.
And it is a little more work, but less expence to shape from flat sheet.
Shapers below sell EPS blanks but they are pricy, particularly if you stuf it up!
Just remember its far easer to take more foam off than to put it back on
For info on the subject of shaping & glassing see www.shapers.com.au for DVD's

9' x 27" Shaped The 8' x 26" next

The rocker is close "un bent"

Concave deck full length, reduces weight, c of g & full buoyant rails

The weight of glass & resin will nomaly make the board slump to the support that is setting the rocker, or a wood screw either end to pull down

Hi mate have you ever tried to make a blow up of an existing board....I'm thinking of trying to blow my 6'6 up to 9ft or so and making HWS but am just trying to wrap my head around the rocker and nose tail lift variations

Hi DJ,
About 15 mm concave right along the deck.
When Dave Parmentier was here at Roady during the Ripcirl Bells, I had a shot on his board it was very different to what you see around now.
The board I am doing in this shot will have some similarities.
I think we may see more concave decks being made in production boards in the future, it just makes good design sense, less weight, lower c of g, less inclined to slip off a rail, pushes buoyancy into the rails were needed, hence you can go a bit narrower in width.
Cheers
Dean
ps just about low tide.......ya comin for a SUP @ Roady?

Oh my god!! Dave Parmenter was here on the Surfcoast over the Ripcurl Pro .Then, oh my god!! I have made a complete and utter knob end of myself without even knowing it. I went for a paddle at point Roadknight late one sunday arvo, small , gentle right hander and was joined by a bloke paddleing a little 9 footerish board .We got talking,(the guy had an American accent) mainly about the break and I was giving him the local knowledge about how the tide here is really critical etc etc.I thought ,friendly guy!he seems kind of familiar. anyhow we started talking about boards,I was filling him in on making surfboards at home!!!!,(i was on my latest home made, and it really is as rough as guts) he seemed interested, asking me about my construction techniques , design theories etc.(he must have been cacking his guts up inside) I think at some stage of our conversation(now nightmare)I may have even encouraged him to try and build his own surfboard at his place .The penny still had'nt dropped as I caught my last wave in, then watched this bloke absolutely rip apart his next wave from point to beach.I thought gee that guys not a bad surfer.yep, Dave Parmenter.

.. Classic stuff ..

I've heard that Dave Parmenter was staying at Wayne Lynch's place so I wonder if we'll start seeing Wayne on a SUP soon.

Thanks for the deck pic Dean (looks great) .. I'll be seeing you again down there soon..

On the subject of Wayne, Jarrod & I were at Danger last week when Wayne came sailing out of Bass Strait, flew past the reefs & dropped anchor at fishos, not long after I noticed a SUP'er in his cloths, with a large back pack on making his way out to the 50' cat.
Being a nice 15 to 20 knt southerly we thought let's do a down winder & say giday too.
On arrival it was clear what Cusso was carying in the "large" back pack, "liquid refreshment" .......most of it gone.
Cusso was intending to leave the same way he arrived.....on his standup paddle board....but after dark

Dave was riding the new 9'6 Sub Vector whilst in Oz. This along with the 9'3Sub Vec and 10'0 Sub Vec production boards will have the concave decks.
