Hi DJ,
What board is that at 1:20 and 1:45? Looks like a Javelin GX? I thought it was too tipy for cop rides...
And why are you faster than others, experience or board... or both?
That's a 12'6" Javelin.. It goes great on downwinders.. It's the 14' Javelin's that are very tippy and hard work on downwinders.
I have at least three friends that have this board [the 12'6'' Jav] as their only flat water / DW board.. It's 28" wide and pretty stable as long as you're not over about 80kgs.. Unless you're good.
As far as me being faster than the others.. I'm not.. The fast guys usually don't get in my vids because they are too far ahead to be caught on film..
Even those that I seem to catch and zoom past often finish ahead of me.. We often yo yo about as one person catches a runner and another drops off one or misses one.. I think my editing makes me look better than I am.. and also the Naish Glide is an awesome DW board.
IMO.. downwinding is not a race or about being the fastest.. It's the fun.. it's the workout.. it's the great feeling of being out there in the elements in wild conditions.. and it's the great feeling you get from seeing yourself progress as you learn to read the water and master your board.. and master the technique of downwinding..
