So do they look at a early morning start on the easterly and head to Rotto for lunch at the pub?
Or a late arvo start to make use of the 9kts expected?
Would be great to switch the two days around and do the Rotto run on Sunday, looking at the current forecast.
No doubt Deans got his finger on the pulse.

Did someone forget to book a 25 knot westerly for the race?

Does this sound like Groundhog Day to anyone else?

We could start real early and be at the pub for breakfast!!
Thought you were off the grog did Sundays "downwinder" break you?
Forecast for the race start is looking very light on Saturday, Sunday is certainly the pick of the days so far.

We could do the Double Dr! Mainland to Rotto in the early morning off shore, the pub for lunch while the seabreeze picks up and then do the DW run back to Sorrento.

Depends on what they classify as "the best down wind conditions". Ultimately it is a ski race and they would still have a good run on Saturday, so we play second fiddle.

My vote is for an early start Saturday, and then a couple off the wood at the greatest pub on earth.

If it was thurs or mon, would that make it too much on the side?

Yeah you would probably end up in Lancelin but how good would it be!

They had that on the website last year too and even though the forecast was much better for Sunday they still ran on Saturday as apparently some paddlers had booked flights home on Saturday night regardless of the possibility it could run Sunday. Wonder what they'll do this year?

To me it seems a bit pointless to advertise a 2 day window, then choose not to us it because a few gun paddlers ignored the advertising whilst most of the field booked an extra night to ensure they were there both days for whichever day the event ran on.

Fingers crossed if Sunday is looking better this year they use their common sense to change the race day.

Absolutely agree Ali. To me The Dr is the main attraction not the teams race so why not put that in the best possible conditions.

Ferry, surf, pub anyone!!!

Nuh, keep the fingers crossed the forecast has been changing by the day for the last couple of weeks, anything could happen before Saturday.

I have done stuff all paddling in the last couple of weeks, first Xmas, New Years etc then I have been busy kiting heaps in the lead up to the Lancelin Ocean Classic that was on last weekend, so I'm going to need some major wind/wave assistance if I'm to do it.

That is not until late afternoon they (and me) are not going to want to wait till late arvo until starting a 27k race.
Half way between Rottnest and the WA mainland is not where you want to be when it is approaching sunset these days.
