Thanks Dj would love to:) I spoke to a sydney surf shop guy today who had about 6 different 12'6 boards I could demo but no glides. He then proceeded to tell me that he thought the glide would be no good for downwinding cause it would be too hard for me to control. He mentioned the width as though this would be an issue. I know that you are a very experienced paddler so no doubt can make any board you ride look easy but in your opinion is the Glide a good place to start when wanting a board for both flat water and down winding or will it prove difficult for me to control?
IMO the 12'6" Glide is an excellent choice for both DW and flat water.. also fun surf like BOP stuff.. A friend who has an F16 bought my old 12'6" Glide and he came on a downwinder with us soon after buying it and he raved about how well it went .. I don't think it's a skill thing.. Some boards work.. some don't.. Some work better than others.. IMO the Glide works very well.. The boards that require skill are the narrower boards.. The Glide is very stable at 30" wide.. The only bad thing about it is its weight.. It's pretty heavy when carrying it.. Once on the water the extra weight is not that noticeable ..
