I hope we see some pics surely he got it today. It would have been the perfect board for todays conditions here on the Goldy.I went down early to the Alley and struggled to catch one on my 10.6 , so i set of down the road to snapper and managed to catch a few.But would have been much easier on a board with more weight and length. When i first got down their a guy on the old Kalama 11.6 was catching them pretty easy.I managed to get a few good ones but it was hard work in the wind and you had no choice but to take off deep , the waves where a good size but pretty full.Moral of the storey short Sup where no where to bee seen today.Only 3 out the Alley and 2 at snapper all morning. The other guy at snapper was on a 9,3 ripper and he was going pretty good.So dont throw out your old 11 + plus boards, some conditions they are ideal in.

So Piros looking forward to your ex-pose.

Five of us this morning hit Snapper at 6ish this morning on SUP boards ranging from 8'10 through to 10'3.
Four of us were surfing boards in the 9''- 9''6 and getting plenty, although the wind did get up early.

Waves were good sizes around head height and big drops on some of the bigger bombs.3 leggies were broken and we all copped a few floggings when we got caught on the inside. We were gone by 8.30am.

So the moral of the story is... the short SUP's do catch the early waves whilst everyone is sleeping.

I went out at Kirra this morning from about 6.45 to about 8.30am and pretty much stayed in front of Pizza Hut the whole time. I saw a heap of guys on short boards getting some great barrels just off the groyne where Cooly ends and Kirra starts. Seemed like the wave would drop in size as it hit what you would probably call Kirra point then fizz out just in front of Pizza hut but then other lines would just start in front of Pizza hut and run down to just before the old Pie shop. These where running fast but weren't real hollow. That's what I stayed on as the wave suited my 11'6" Kalama a lot better. It's great to be on something that paddles against a sweep so easily and to be able to put yourself in position for the waves that the prone paddlers find hard to be in the zone for. I was looking out off Snapper and saw some guys standing up and it seemed like they were quite a way offshore but it was hard to tell.
Bloody great morning.

i had a late start. just about put the leggie on at lacey's lane to hit the alley, but the wind went nuts. so it was about 11 oclock before i got to rainbow. i was really keen with my new lightweight, thinned down 8 10.but it was breaking all over the place, really windy and the waves were really fat. i didn't consider it that big, but the newie is only 117 litres and teatrea and some other bloke were doing a lot of long hard paddling way out.so i piked and went to the clarks. geez it was still blowing a gale, but there was nice 3 fter's running down the beach.it was crowded but got some and hopped out before the rain.i still reckon at 11 oclock, a bigger board with some weight and paddling power would have been the go at rainbow. also the waves at that time suited bigger sticks

Bet you had fun , 3 leggies broken that sucks im suprised mine didnt break , on one wave i swear it got stetched at least 10m.In those conditions all im saying is bigger and heavier the board all the better. You blokes are pretty keen heading out that early though.Im definately looking forward to pics.A 12 gun would have been sweet today and tomorrow should be good too.Just glad the wave drought is over.

Hey Thomo,

It actually wasn't that bad. I just paddled out to the edge of the gutter then picked my time to bolt for it. What's great about these boards is that once you get over your teething learning period and can paddle in a bit of wind and chop and over some small whitewater, you can really make up a lot of ground when the time is right. When I got to the end of a wave and there were others after it, I would just pull off the back whilst holding as much speed as possible and just paddle as hard as I could to the North East. It didn't really matter how much ground I lost as it still wasn't overly hard to paddle back into position.
Granted that I haven't had experience on smaller Sup's and their manouverability, but these boards are what I always dreamed about and spent so much money over the years trying to find. A board that paddles great, can catch all the wide waves at the points that I used to see go untouched, and can stay on or even catch waves that are normally too weak to ride. I just wish I had tried this prior to having multiple mortgages. Oh well.
God bless my second hand cheapy Kalama.

We hit Kirra 2pm Friday arvo for classic Kirra barrels best I have surfed Kirra in 10+ years , I was on my DC9-2 Brett was on his 9-8 Starboard , because we could get on and down the face early we were making waves the short boarders couldn't. I even got shacked twice on the one wave these fast sucky waves really tested my fins; I had some nasty slides through critical turns. Some waves only lasted 10 or 12secs and when you pulled off it looked back it was a 100m paddle back.

We were back there early the next morning with the film gear but it all had changed so we hit Snapper with Wazza and the crew. It was fairly fat and shifty which makes it hard to get good shots.

Sunday was a 4.30am start with the 12-0 strapped to the roof and off to Lennox it was big and messy with no channel to get out on a Sup we drove back to Byron and surfed the pass but the swell was too south and it was really lumpy , we picked off a few bombs but nothing to rave about.

Shame you're not in Sydney Piros, we had some double overhead + stuff here today. Took me 3 goes to get out at DY point which was closing out with the beach break on the big sets. Massive walls and a small crowd who were all under gunned. Ya gotta love the SUPs in big waves

spewin piros that you didnt get the big girl out for a whirl in some juice

sunday was massive down here

i watched a few of my mates cop some heavy sets on the head at the backbeach some nasty long lefthand monsters with a few bumps down the line making it a bit sectiony but didnt think i would get out so didnt i hit it

mid morning i watched the ocassional set hitting the big bomb righthander on the other side of town but the north wind picked up and killed that idea

then today dawned with a slight jiggle on from the north but the swell lines had cleaned up and the backbeach was on fire

the paddle out was sketchy but i winged it and didnt even get wet got a few large ones then got nailed and had to walk about 1km back to where i paddled out at

got a few more sick ones then after about 5hrs dragged my fat arse home

swell has dropped a heap on dark but is still lining up sweetly

going to watch the footy on a mates aus star and hit the hay for more tomorrow

go parramatta!!!i bet they get killed by the titans
