Yesterday's DW'er was awesome and I got to see just how high I can go with my home made GoPro mount.

It's a bit wobbly at times but still watchable.

Be warned.. if you're not into down-winders you will find it my longest and most boring vid yet..

Nice angle compared to normal gopro stuff.

Looked like a fun paddle. What was the pole dancer doing?

Nice work DJ, looked like a ripper outing.

Did I see an Ace Bop and an Ace Pro (and the pierce toruing?) in the fleet...how did they go?

I was on the 12'6 x 26.5 BOP, it was fun, low nose rocker means you need to walk it to keep the nose out but it does pierce and recover very well. Seemed to be quite critical, walk back too far and it would stall, stay too far forward and it would pearl, after a few k I started to work it out and it was really fun then. Once actually on a reasonable wave It surfed beautifully, felt really stable and responsive. But you know what, 12'6 for down winding really doesn't do it for me. I'd love to try it in some actual waves, what it was designed for. It's a small board, have a feeling for most people the 28 would be a better BOP board. Can't work out why the deck pad doesn't run all the way back, the Startouch is actually super grippy but I like the real grip of edges of deck grip - I'd be doing some deck grip crazy paving straight away if it was mine.

Milo had a smile a mile wide after his run on the Pierce Touring, he was way way faster than usual on down winders, like the BOP the upside down piercing nose is very very forgiving of being pearled and recovers straight and cleanly. Interesting, let's boards with quite low nose rocker work well as downwinders. Seems to make sense unless it's really huge conditions.

And the Ace Pro, well Cam was on it and he was just gone....

that looked like fun!!....great angle!!
That mount is one funky looking bit of plumbing.
I reckon next one will have to be made out of old carbon paddle shafts.
Get some inserts fixed into the board....like sailboard footstrap inserts and screw the mount to them.....cheaper than FCS inserts.
That would never fall off.....unless you fell on it or it hit the bottom.
I would be happy to assist with the construction.....I love playing around with carbon and epoxy.
Let me know if you are keen DJ
If so, would anyone be prepared to donate old paddle shafts for the construction??

That's awesome footage DJ, great angle for showing DWing. One of the best I have seen!

Those conditions look amazing, must be some of the best in OZ (not that I would know). Gotta be something good about living in Melbourne I guess

Nice one DJ. When Dave Gilmour tracks you down, he will be demanding a large royalty payment.

Brucex, you mustn't have watched to the end of the clip. About 7-8 mins in, the rig is shown extensively.

Milo...was trying to work out who that was, should have recognised his special hat. Itching to get on that PT. Bloody Cam, on last Thursday's "half-winder" he paddled back to meet me...twice

Bout time we revised you a dampened mechanical pendulum mount DJ, keep that horizon level. Just needs to a small disc attached to the pendulum shaft encased in an oil bath. Gravity will do the rest. Has been used on racing motorbikes in GP races to level the camera when they lean over. Also they have electronic ones now too like in model aeroplane gyros to level to horizon.

Step it up DJ, before long you will have a fleet of drones circling and filming you locked onto a homing beacon. ..haha.

I would only use it in the surf if you were prety confident that you're not going to fall off..

I might try it one day.

That would be good.. Getting the weight down would help heaps.. I'm thinking some kind of pivot or ball joint at the bottom of each leg so the foot fit snug against any angle or board.. I still like the tape rather than fittings.

That sounds pretty techo for something that is just taped on the board.
If taped maybe a little safety strap fixed to it and the leash plug would be the go. I'm sure you don't want another go-pro going to the bottom.
I've got a few ideas.....will try and catch up with you at Inverloch on Saturday and have a chat about it.
