Today Jonathan and I had one of our best down-winders.. It was clear blue sky.. Warm (almost hot) north wind at a solid 30 knots and the perfect direction.
Everything was perfect.. except at about half way we had this big Police launch cruise up behind us and give us a toot with his horn.
We stopped and let them come along side and there were more than half a dozen water Police on board.. I thought.. gulp!!.. We didn't have PFD's.
The main guy asked if we were ok.. I said yes we're fine.
He said that someone had reported that they'd seen someone with a fluro top on fall and looked like they were in trouble.
Jonathan had a fluro top on.. and he had fallen once or twice (tippy penny) and he asked where we'd paddled from and where we were headed.
He decided that it was Jonathan that someone had reported and said maybe it would be a good idea to wear at least a type one PFD.
I said we had leggies and the board was our flotation device.. He said cool.
He then said and as long as you have a 3mm wettie and don't paddle more than about 300 meters from shore we were ok...
He said that it looked to him like we had 3mm wet suits on and gave us a wink.. (we didn't)..
All the Police on board were very friendly to us.. They gave us a thumbs up and wave as they headed off behind up.
All good..

.. Back to catching runners.. What a day!!!..
