Hi All,

Just posting this here for anyones who interested or hasnt seen the other (old) thread.

We are planning a SUP downwind run from St Kilda beach to Sandringham Y.C.. Its about 10 km and should take 90 minutes - give or take.

Forecast conditions are perfect with a Northerly in the morning swinging around to a NW at lunchtime and peaking at about 40kmh. Temperature should be in the low 30's.

Plan to get away at ~10am.

Anyone else interested? All skill levels and board types welcome.

Forecast for Saturday

Mostly sunny. Winds northerly increasing up to 40 km/h during the morning.

Min 17
Max 33

I'm in.

BTW.. I saw my first shark at St Kilda beach today..

It cruised right past my board.. It was only about 4-5' long... It was so cool..

Was I wrong to smile when I saw it head over towards the swimmers..

DJ, It looks like it might be just us two

RE: The Car Shuffle. If you leave your board at the SUPBus first then I can meet you at Sandringham about 09:30 to drive back to it.

Let me know if any probs with this plan.

Coming out of St Kilda its usually ankle or shin high wind chop. It picks up a bit further out and by the time you're at Elwood its getting knee to waist swell. At Sandringham its getting up there but it doesnt get really big until you're out off ricketts.

Its moving pretty fast but usally not that steep. You get the occaisional curler will pcik you up and take you but for the most part you have to ride the momentum. Theres whitewater going off all over but.

Had a good downwinder. Bit worried the wind wasnt going to turn up at first but we waited up at St Kilda for about half an hour and it kicked in pretty good.

No particularly big waves on this run but we had a solid 15-20 knot wind behind us and some nice little runners to pull onto.

Jonathan turned up to join us and took a few piccies.

I wasn't sure if the wind was going to pick up or not. I had my daughters 17th to organise today so wasn't going to make it today. Glad it worked out for you guys.

A few snaps from today, beautiful easy conditions. Didn't even get wet, except that one time.......and I thought I had the stable board!

DJ and Lobes saddle up.

Perfect day for it. It was like a watery magic carpet ride.
DJ and I were talking about doing a second run. We probably could have, the waves would have been better. But in the end the car shuffle defeated us

I needed some lunch anyway

Thanks for the pics Jonathan.. I can't wait till you have that F1 style twin exhaust 14' pintail Pene... That thing's going to be a rocket on these down-winders.

It was such a nice day and I had the whole day off for a change so I paddled all day untill about 5pm doing loops around the marina.

Upwind into the 20knots one side and then down wind cruise the other.. I made the most of a beautiful day.. and having Rea to paddle with made it even better..

Left from the St Kilda jetty - started just upwind and went under the pier, where the SUP bus parks.
