The wind on yesterday's downwinder was only light with about 15-20 knots.. and a lot in the 10-15 knot range.. Still it was enough to catch some runners and have fun..

It also gave me the chance to try a new camera angle.. I wanted to see what the view is like having the camera about 10' in the air was it going to be hard to paddle.. and will it be too wobbly.. What do you think?

It's like taking Dogmans back pack cam to a new level..

Nice try but it's a thumbs down from me. Not a good angle for downwind. I'd be going back to the waist high PVC rig.

It's nice for a bit of variation, especially when you can see the bottom. Not so good for a whole video.

It would be good to see how it looks in the surf. Maybe tilt the camera so your body is in the side of the shot and the wave takes up the rest of the frame.

Yeah - real nice if you were going over shallow reef or an interesting area. Maybe pointing forward a bit more too. It'd be really cool when out with the dolphins or whales!
Love your videos DJ !

I tried to get into the whole dw thing but couldn't really get my head around it.
You guys do make it look fun tho. Is flat water the key maybe?
I got sick of getting smashed on 6 footers with 12'6 tied to my leg while paddling out/ going in.
Maybe one day...
Nice vid...

The camera height really makes the boards look short, All the Naish boards were 14'er weren't they?

DJ, you should try out the GoWing, www.gowing.co

It's a small wing on the end of a pole tethered to you or the SUP, floats on the wind so it is disconnected form the motion of the SUP or yourself. This would need some testing for downwinding, but worth a look. You can see the wing being used in this video.

DJ,
I think it is worth trying again, but point the camera higher so you can see the horizon, and so you can't see the pole. Perhaps...
Keep up the good work, and effort!

Thanks Paul.. It was just an experiment.. I don't think anything will be better than the wide PVC rig..

I'd like to try this rig again on a really strong day and see if the troughs show up from above.. In light onitions it just looks dead flat.

A blimp with vanes would work better, to give it directionality and stability.

Thanks Rambo..

Not sure where I would get a blimp.. I was thinking a round balloon but not using a string.. Using a batten or rod/pole.. A little like that GoWIng uses in that vid.

Another unique idea DJ, though I prefer he more panoramic view from your other set up. This one limits the field a bit so us viewers don't get to see as much of the surroundings.
Looking forward to your next idea. How about a kite with the camera on it attached to you by a ether. Just an idea.
Though I am sure you will advance this a bit further.
Cheers ET.
