Hi all, I have used a all round type board to start off with. It was 11'6 x 33. I'm looking to upgrade. Mostly go flat water with very occasional surf (very small).

I'm looking at a 12'6 x 27 falcon. My question is I'm 108kg & would like to know if the board is suitable?

I have not ridden that board, but I would advise you to go wider, unless you are super-keen on going fast.

I have a 14'x26" Jav and it is tippy. Sure, some don't find it tippy, but I have been SUPing two years (mostly surf) and I am 6'3" 90 kg and I just don't think it is necessary to go to a narrow board if you just want to have fun. You can relax more and have more fun if you don't have to concentrate on staying upright when you get in some bumpy water, side-chop, boat wakes, etc.

IMO it's too narrow and too tippy for you..

I agree with DJ. I own a 2014 27 inch Falcon which I just moved to from a 30 inch wide Naish glide. It is a significant challenge to stay on top of as it has a fast initial wobble. Great secondary stability. I'm looking forward to getting better on this board but it will be a bit of a challenge

I'm 6'2 90 kg

The 27 is probably a little thin. The 30 would be worth looking at.

I have the 27,,I hover between 75 an 80 kg and feels it borderline for me.I had been on a 30 for a few years now,not regretting going to 27 as I want to race a little but on a 30 it very stable and was great for the ocean and catching waves (great for fishing)

As much as the guys above have good advice please remember everyone is different you might be over 100kg but no on here knows how good your balance is for all we know you have amazing balance and a 25 inch wide board might be perfect! i know lots of big guys who paddle the 27 wide Fanatic in the 2014 and 2015 models as they have good volume and can handle the extra weight.

The only reason you would ride a 30 wide race board is if you really needed the stability other wise you are just pushing water for no reason.

Demo some boards is your best bet and that way you will really find what you need the first time.

I have a 14x29 and its solid as a rock, I'm 5'9" and 80 kilos.. Good looking too
I rode a 12'6x26 two weeks ago
And struggled on it. Sure it'd soon settle in with time on it but that was too much for me.
As suggested above, go wide, you really don't need narrow unless your aim is speed.
Wide = easy everything...
Enjoy..

I suggest you demo one. I was 105kg on a Fantatic 12'6 x 24 carbon and found it to be the most stable board I,ve ever owned, and Ive had a few. Only sold it to fund another14ft or unlimitedbut still deciding. Enjoy the search.

A 14'x27 is more stable than a 12'6x27 (of the same shape). I am 5'10 and 90kg and have tried many different boards I found that a 14'x25 is more stable than a 12'6x27. A recessed deck is even more stable e.g. NSP DC and SB Ace.

Try a DC 14'x29". Great all-round board for your weight...

Thanks for all the advice gents, I tried a few boards and ending up parting with some of the hard earned for a Falcon 12'6 x 29.75. Would have gone a 14' but for storage issues. None the less I'm very happy with it!
