Hi all
Hope you may be able to help or advice me
I'm recently new to sup but have managed to get upright and paddle in calm water
I love being able to paddle on the water at the back of my house
However after about 10 mins of paddling I get a cramp feeling in both my feet

Can anybody advise me how to stop this
As its stopping me getting any further with my board

Thanks
Spud

It happens to alot of us when we first start out, you are trying to grip the board with your feet , you just need to try and relax your feet and move them around.

Yep, what he said, happens to nearly everyone starting out. On the board try to wiggle your toes from time to time and move your feet a little. Stretching your feet and calf muscles off the board will help too.

Just keep doing it. The muscles in your feet will soon strengthen and then it won't be a problem. I still get feet cramps if I head out after a fairly lengthy break.

All the above. Three months, since I started, I don't get the foot cramps on flat water at all, but in rough surf they still tighten a little. Won't take long, persevere, it's waaaayyyy to much fun.

Very simple. Get wet. Once you are wet nothing worse is going to happen and you just relax.

Agree it takes me a while to settle in regardless of the board ( I have a 9 and 8 5 Naish Hokua and am 66) but once wet everything adjusts better, fall in twice even better.

The problem is that a fall is not what we want to do is it?

I now ignor the so called accepted protocol and fall in when I want and sit on the board as well.

This approach ensures I get the most out of my surf session and have a chat to other surfers - give it a go it just gets better the more u do it.
