Im heading to Plantation in about a week or so. Where can I hire the SUP on the mainland from?
I went last year. Stayed on plantation, wish i took my own to be honest. Namotu is so close it is ridiculous. Taxes changed just before i got there and getting a board to plantation from the mainland was going to cost too much. Found a sup on the island but had no leash and they werent too keen to let me surf it. Follow this link to another thread that i found on seabreeze. Really useful. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Fiji-Sup-hire-details/
They have a few Naish boards but just check on the cost on getting it on the boat, that's what costs a bit.
Christ Cam, you're digging up an old post there. I just clicked on the link and it brought back fond memories. Here's the link for Sup hire
www.waluwatersports.comLisa is very helpful.
As I mentioned in my post, I took my Sup with me to Fiji. It was my 14ft flat water board and I just cruised around Treasure Island and paddled through a few villages around Shangri-La resort on the mainland. I had no issues getting it on the plane and the nice lady at the check-in desk waivered the $50 bulk fee (yep, I still got it).
The only problem I encountered was transporting my Sup as they couldn't fit it in the mini-bus. Something about 'lost in translation' between my travel agent and Fiji transport. So there I was waving goodbye to the Mrs and kids at 8 o'clock in the pm as they head to our first night accom and I'm sitting stranded at Nadi Airport with people staring at me wondering WTF I am carrying.
Money talks, so I got a driver with an 8 seater van with roof racks. We used him for the rest of the trip instead of our transfers. I recommend Plantation 100% - great for family and close to Namotu.
If you are looking for waves out front I would go with Piros' recommendation of Fiji Beachouse.
A shot from Treasure Island looking out to Beachcomber Island.
