I have not considered changing fins before and have always surfed with what was in the board. Today I broke one on a 9'6" naish (quad) and before I replace it I was wondering what difference it would make to change the set up bigger or smaller etc.

How would this effect performance

Does it effect stability

What suggestions does anyone who has played around with fin set up or those who shape boards have. As we approach summer and the conditions chop up a bit more what fin size assist stability (if any does)

I know it is not the most exciting topic but what people think would be appreciated.

Cheers

Did you break front of back fin ?

I am no expert but I would think that with the tight fin setup on the naish that anything bigger than the Simon larges would cause the board to get moved around too much by current when standing around and at low speed and generally create too much drag. Personally the biggest fin I would try on the front would be something like an occy or sunny and the smallest on the back would be a G1000. I think the important thing is to stick with fins that have a very similar template. The most fun setup I have ever tried on a quad was AM-2s front and GX-Qs rear, but it will be insanely loose. I have got one of these sets if you wanna try it.

Oh yeah you probably already know it, but the rear Simons are identical to a 3 (M3,PG3 etc) so it will be cheaper to put those in if you broke a rear.

Hey swanie, I have the 9 6" naish and have tried a lot of different fins, I am running fcs sf 4 now and love them.
They make the board feel totally different, heaps looser and turns on a dime.

Give em a go you will love them.

It would be awsome to start a fin swaping idea, Everyone interested to swap fins with others in return to try another.

Gday Swanie,
dunno if it helps, but I use "speedfins" in my boards, and in my 8'5"I have 108's in the front and 120's in the back.My shaper suggests the larger fins in the rear for SUP????????

Hi Bill
I broke one of the front ones. I am interested in your set up and will chat to you about it at the meet if you are there. I am thinking of keeping the 7s in the front but dropping the back down to 4s just to loosen it up a bit as per Brooko's call.

Cheers

Hey Robbo

I would be interested in his thought on that. I am far from an expert on this but I thought that may give more drive but tighten up the turns. I am surfing a shore break and need it fairly loose most of the time. Hows that beautiful point break you have down there?

Cheers
