As a starting point (as most of don't have a swag of fins) what we are finding works well is a DOLPHIN style centre like the FCS Fluid Foils - 5-6" fin for 9-9'6 board or 7"+ fin for a 10'+board.

Or FUTURE PINS Performance is another really nice fin-

Blane's Thruster Side bites of choice are the Sunny sides-

If you are not riding in super juicy waves then throw in a pair of FCS FG-5's or FG-7's.
These fins have an inside foil (concave) and definitely make the board feel shorter.
Downside is that they can get a bit sketchy when hitting mach speed!

As Blane says it really boils down to your personal style & choice, but the above fins are good starting point.

Any one else found some good reliable set-ups?

Hope this helps!

Grabed some fins for the 10'6 AAW from Shapers at Currumbin on the Gold Coast. Went for a 6.5" "single guy" centre and S-5 sides which are same as fcs fg5's. Have not surfed this set up yet and go on 24 hour emergency call tomorrow arvo for 7 days which = no surf for 7 days The fins look sweet, are well finished and were the right price...

yo dudes

im using the simon anderson large quad in my quad board at the moment

and swapping the sides on my thruster between
FG 5
FG 7
G 4 (they dont make anymore)
an old set of G 2 (that they dont make anymore and are bigger than the sunny fins)
simon anderson large
K 2.1 slater fins my most used fins which i always use in my shortboards and in my kiteboards

with a standard dolphin fluid foil 6' centre fin

i am constantly adjusting the centre fin to suit the swell size and swell power or for down the line points or short beach breaks 10 mm makes a big difference in loosening or tightening a board up

i sometimes carry a screw driver in my pocket to adjust the fin out in the water while on the go

each to their own
