It was Robdogs birthday and just not feeling up to having a paddle due to losing Ala our dog, earlier in the week, I was getting this puppy in the water no matter the conditions today.
It was a weird day ,offshore, then offshore, then side chop, anyway all sorts. We checked a couple of spots but ended up back at our local. This is by no-way a review as I only spent 1.5hrs on it and it was only 2ft and pretty sloppy.

The board paddles great, and has no problems floating my 103 kg, with the real pointy nose it changes direction real quick with one or two strokes either side. My first wave and the thing just took off like a rocket, I did a nice snappy bottom turn and whacked the lip and it closed out. I also got a paddle off Rod and (i didnt use it today) which is superb quality and lighter than methane, will use it next time for sure I just wanted to use the new board with a paddle I was comfy with. I will do a more in depth review once I have really tested it in meaty waves, but I first impresssions in slop it Is gunna be awesome.

Robdog and I both commented on the high quality and finish on the board, this guy definately knows his stuff.

In the arvo i went to another spot with another mate and only had the 9 6" with me and got solid 3 -4 ft beachies , we both got some really good waves, It was rippy a little bit of wind and some testing waves, but heaps of funIt was the best session in weeks, shame I didnt have the new 8 6" with me for that session.

Good one Brooko.

Looking forward to a detailed review when you've had a chance to really test it out.

Yeah, take some pictures of it.

Hey Bren I am so slack at getting pics, and our camera is broken. Early next week when Robdog is back, I will see if he can get some pics for you.
Mate these boards are super quality and the lightest board I have ever felt, Maybe give me a call next week I will have a chat with you

No worries. How's the weight compare to your Naish 9'6"?

A fair bit lighter for sure, this board has a definate short board feel about, it almost flys out from under your feet

Thanks Brooko,
anything just about works in two foot slop. I am pleased the board paddles well for you.
The board was near the target weight that I try for, 9 to 10 kg range. Your board was 10kg with all the fins, I probably went overboard with the amount of glass I used on the rails, made it super strong.

These are the pics I took at my workshop for my records. I have been saving them till you got your new shooter.

I had some fun 4foot waves this arvo. Lumpy with an ENE wind with and an east swell, sucky takeoffs and walls. The biggest surf since I don't know when.

Regards Rod

Looks so much like a shortboard. Especially the 2nd last shot with the deck facing up.
Maybe a lot thicker but the rocker line and profile through the nose is very shortboard like.

I rekon it would rip. Maybe not hold on a super fat wave but steeper faces would be awesome.

Would be interesting to see which fin setup works best.

Brooko or Rod, how wide is the deckpad around paddle position?
How'd it feel Brooko? The pad that is.

I make the pads around 600 wide and out of medium density for cushion. It just depends on how wide the board is.

Cool, I'm just trying to put the board/shape/width in perspective compared to my board.
So then when I order one I can get it spot on for me!

Hey Bren, the deck grip feels fine, im very used to the one on the naish so at first I thought it felt a tiny bit slippery, but its not its just the 9 6" naish has the raised pad and Im used to locking my feet in there.
Your board would not need to be as thick as you may not be as big as me, Im pretty sure Rod would make it however thick you want it.

Scotty it has heaps of tail kick and nose kick, which i love .... My short boards used to have something like 6 3/4 inches and 2 3/4 " of rocker in the tail and nose, for the sucky late drops around Margaret River, I dont like ironing boards they nose dive and stick!! I love heaps of rocker. This board looks like a hot buttered short board poto used to charge onthis Really does look and feel like a surfboard, which is what Im after.

Yep,
It does look cool,
I am trying to find the balance between enough to make the board loose and but still have plenty of speed down the line. Just an observation, not being critical. Maybe soon when I finish mine and when a friend of mine has his starboard 8'5" we hook up somewhere and do some comparisons brooko? Maybe Portland or even port mac would be good?

Scotty

looks sweet Brooko, sounds like your in love already.

How does it compare to the 9 6 for stability and glide?

Hey Scotty, have you SUPed around Port Mac before, if so where?

Ian

Howdy Ian,
There are many excellent quality surf breaks at port mac. I have not sup there but I have surfed and windsurfed it a couple of times, some while ago. It would just be a matter of picking a spot no one is surfing and go for it. Generally rocky entries so the paddle straps will come in handy.

Scott

Scotty,
Yeah this area is well kept secret.

A kiting mate said he saw 4 guys SUPing at my local break called Pebbles over Xmas period. Been the only SUP rider around here i was curious to find out who they were, thought you may of been one of them.

I would be only to happy to show you and Brooko around if you ever hook up to compare boards.
