Hi all

Just got back from my first ever SUP session. My wife wanted to go windsurfing but there was no wind at all so I thought it'd be the perfect time to give it a go. While she went out, playing around in a 2 knot westerly, I got myself organized.

I'm using a limited edition Starboard SUP special with a two piece Oxbow carbon paddle. The 1m width of the new board made it quite stable and the 70cm fin was great for tracking but the length, at only 2.28m, meant that the glide per stroke was a little low. On the other hand, at only 8.5kg's handling was a breeze.

I was out for about an hour and feeling pretty good about it but sitting here a few hours later I can feel my previously unused core muscles starting to make themselves felt. I was a great alternative to sitting on the beach so I think I'll have to throw the paddle in with all the other gear when going to the beach so I can keep myself amused when it's too light for sailing.

Great stuff...I'd love to see a pic of that board that you have..It sounds perfect for starting to sup on...Soon you will be hoping for zero wind..

Oliver and I were out today and a group of learners on windsurfers came past us..or should I say we went past them....

It was only about 5 knots..and I think we were going faster than them..

Hi DJ

I didn't get any photos but I'm riding it in my avatar with the optional sail package. I don't think Sydney will be getting any wind for a few weeks now so I'll have heaps of time to practice my new found skills. I'll post some photos when I can
