Yeah.. It doesn't start for a couple of day but some of us are here already having some fun.

Today I had a great session at the Bar with glassy conditions and tiny waves but still heaps of fun.

I was out paddling on the inlet on my 12' Glide and saw they RPS guys mucking around at the Bar so I decided to join them.

I took a few pics.

DJ

My Glide was not the best board to use in those small waves and I didn't have a leggie.

This is Warwick from RPS shop in Melbourne.

It was fun, fun,fun and the water was soooo warm.

Hey Warwick.. You're facing the wrong way..

Arr.. that's better..

Yeap.. Your paddle looks about the right length.

Face plant... Nice..

I was getting cocky taking picutes while riding a wave but I soon came unstuck.. ... Check out my new Maui Rippers.. Thanks Jonathan.. (and Joe)

Then I remembered that I didn't have my leg rope and had to swim for my board.. Bugger..

DJ, looks like a good time you guys are having. Loving the Viccos with the "famers tans" going.

......(according to the last picture) it looks like you are going to have to get a bigger paddle if you get any more sponsors!

Enjoy!

Ha.. Yeah Ronnie.. 'I wish'... I pay for all my stuff.. I guess I just like stickers..

Check out the new Mambo sticker on my Methane..

Today started with more glassy conditions.. Shame about the waves.. This was 6am this morning.

We had more little micro waves on the Bar today.

Went up to Baunda Island looking for waves but the wind had turned to a light onshore.. Still nice though.. this was Baunda Island today.

We did get to see some whales up close today.. How good is that..

I'm off to get the $12 Schnitzel and chips at the golf club tonight with Plill, Kristy and Rich.... Yummmm!..

Yes Casso.. If I happen to get a good pic I'll let you know.

Yes I have heaps of pics to post but I'm having too much fun and no time to sit on the computer... I will get around to it soon.

I have some of day three pics to post soon.. but here's a couple of shots from today.. Day four (day two of the Mambo).

Today I was out sup surfing the Bar from the crack of dawn along with about twenty others and we were all having a ball with party wave after party wave.

I look across and see a group of the crazy Queenslanders paddling across from the main beach.. All had maching shirts and all had a grin from ear to ear.

I realized why the big grins once I read the writing on their t shirts.. They said.. "We're with DJ" ...

Once back at the barbie I took a couple of shots of their shirts.... Too funny..

DJ

First a hand held shot but not getting all the shirt in shot.

This is Ben Dover (Jake) and Dad.. ..and a couple of the nicest people you could meet.

That's better.. Notice the arrows pointing towards me..

BTW.. Jake and his Dad were absolutly ripping today at Pambula.. Phill has some classic shots of them.

Day three was the first day of the Mambo and even before anyone had signed up or even started I was down at the bar before 6am to take a few pics and check the conditions.. It was warm and glassy but still only small waves.

I looked down the beach and see Mel annd Jason about to paddle out to the Bar on their new Hobbie SUP boards and Hobbie paddles.

I took a couple of shots as they paddles out together.

Mel as usual was stoked to be back at the Mambo.

Jason was also glad to be back and looking forward to catching some waves and testing out these new Hobie boards.

Mel was soon charging on these fun little waves.

This is Jason from Torquay.

More to come.. I've gotta hit the sack so I can meet Casso and the others at 530am for some glassy waves.

So do we..

Here's some more pics from the first offical day of the Mambo but before registration.

This day I was out on my 10' Mana and snapped a few pics and people paddled past on these fun little waves.

Here's my mate Cam on his DC.

Here's 13yr old Kristy.

Kristys Dad on his 12' PSH gun.

There was the odd lul between sets.

I managed to get the odd pic while cruising in on a party wave.

We had had a three hour sech and it was time to hit the barbie and see what's happening.

Mmmmm..Pancakes.. In the 29yrs that I've been coming I've never seen pancakes before.

John briefed every one on what's going to happen for the day and explained the rules.. One rule.. NO WINGEING!!.. .. and we were expecting 20+ knot winds.

Just checking what's happening on the water.... Not much unless you're a kiter.

I then checked out what's happening on the grass.. This was the Naish area with Aidan setting up some Naish boards for people to demo.

The little 7'9" Mana caught my eye.

The LSD boards looked good.

There were some Simon Anderson boards there.

The wind started gusting well over 20 knots so we decided to do our down-winder from Merimbula to Pambula and there were about eight of us keen to do it.

The wind direcion was perfect.. It started off nice and calm but soon got nasty and the fun turned into survival mode.. We all made it and it was a real eye opener for those who'd never done one before.. Kristy was the stand out making it look like a piece of cake.. Phil found it hard going on his PSH gun and even Matty had a hard time on the 14' Naish because he's so used to the extra width of his 34" wide Whopper.. Casso also made it look easy on his PSH gun.. My 12' Glide handled the conditions well... Sorry I forgot to take my camera..

Hey DJ,
sorry to hear about your Xmas tree mauling.

Thanks for making stacks of crew aware about the Mambo. The evidence of your spruiking was plainly in view on the water. Everyone seemed to be paddling up to you and saying Hi!

Good to share a few waves with you finally as well.

Cheers

Thanks for the pics DJ. What a great road and fun time all us goldie crew had. I think i am the reason for the flat conditions, i miss 1 year last year and you guys got waves LOL. I'm not missing another year again. It was great to meet the faces of the breeze and a big congrats to kristi on picking up the naish Sup.
I can tell you all that it was a long long drive home to the goldie but it was the best run home we've ever had, so it wasn't to bad.
Most of us from the goldie have got sunbrunt lips and are a bit sore today, that's always a good sign that mambo was excellant.
4 hours of sleep 4 nights in a row is always fun for a early morning sup.
Big thanks to Mel and Jason on the loan of the window 11'6 weapon to us QLD allowing us to beat Vico lol.
Classic downwind conditions up here today, jacko is on his 2nd run from snapper back to the shop now.

Thanks Warwick.. It was great to catch up with everyone.. also great that both you and Brendan could leave the shop at the same time.

It's great that RPS have been a long time supporter of the Mambo.. btw.. I heard that the St Kilda SupBus is coming up next year.

I'm sure I'll be ok for the race on the weekend.. I'm looking forward to it..

DJ,
it's amazing to think I've done 15 straight Mambo's! Then I think of you having done all 29!! An amazing feat. The changes we've both seen with the event and the way it seems to keep changing to keep people stoked with the event also has to be admired.

Get on with the healing and we'll see you Sunday for the race.
