Thought I'd put this out there for those who like to get behind young Aussie athletes who are performing at the elite level in the world. Lincoln is a member of our club and we are used to following him (actually trailing off in the distance behind him) on the regular Lake sessions we do on the Sunshine Coast. He has just left for Hawaii to compete in some big races. We wish him the best.

"SIXTEEN-year-old Alexandra Headland schoolboy Lincoln Dews is fast carving a niche for himself in the emerging professionalism of stand-up paddle-boarding.

He flew out last night for Hawaii with his father Geoff to contest the Waikiki Paddle Festival as well as other events, still pinching himself at the good fortune that has come his way.

Despite his age, Lincoln said his surf lifesaving competition background had provided him with the tactical racing skills to match it with the sport's 200 global elite.

Kite-boarding, windsurfing and stand-up paddle board manufacturer Starboards Paddle Boards agrees. After supporting him with discounted craft, the business has chipped in this year with funding to get him to at least five international events.

The rewards follow a string of outstanding results with a win in The Doctor 12ft 6in division in Perth in January and a win at the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

The youngster also last year completed the 52km Molokai to Oahu paddle board race, a distance equal to that from Noosa to Golden Beach.

This weekend's event over an M-shaped course which will take contestants in and out of the surf zone looms as a big test.

The event is part of the Quiksilver Waterman Collection series and has attracted competitors from the US mainland as well as a strong Australian representation.

Lincoln said stand-up racing was a good way to fill the surf lifesaving off-season."

Definately great to see another young bloke having a crack! It would be good to see more young crew giving the sport a go making sure the sport grows.
