I'm down at Scarborough beach in Perth nearly every day.
Running around with my daughter, surfing, SUPing windsurfing or just running on the beach.

In all that time i kept seeing all these angles and perspectives that would make great images - but i never had the chance to capture them through a camera lense. Well not any more!

On the day i was filming Dave Muir was out - so i managed to get a few shots of him in the edit. I SUP scarborough quite a bit myself (on the small weak swell days only)

Its great to see how well Dave interacts with the surfers in the water. He gives respect and gets it too. Having been in the water on a surfboard when he's out on a SUP i can see he's a pleasure to be in the water with.

I try and do the same but these days there are a lot of surfers that have been burned by other SUPS and you do get the wary look until they figure out that you aren't a wave hog...

On this shoot I set myself the limitation of (almost) always trying to shoot through something to give the beach a different perspective. I think i have succeeded... but you can be the judge of that.

I also tried out some "hyper lapses" to try and get a hang of them. With varying results.

Thanks for posting Reflex, great stuff.
It's a beach with a "personality" all of its own, that's for sure!

Looks like Dave did land that too... Very tidy.

Thanks for the positive comments here.

- this video seems to have some good traction despite there being no go pro or drone footage in it at all!

I did pay particular attention to sound in the shoot and had a bit of fun with sound sweetening and effects in the edit

- maybe just a touch over the top but i had fun.

An ironic fact that i have noted over time is that when on set it's often the sound guys that are most into cinema and the art form. Many of the worlds best directors have come from a sound recording background.
I guess my point is that paying attention to sound can deliver the best reward for time to effort.

Dave did land that little hop off the wave.

Well done. That was a really fresh approach. Seeing surfing as just a wall paper behind the life passing by.

Also dug the sped up music for the slowed down surf.
