I knew this day would come I forgot my vent screw in my old starboard 14"
Paddled for about 30mins calm-ish water but did a couple bouy turns which would of sunk the tail.. Board sat upside down on car all day only realized I didn't put screw in when I put board away tonight..

Would water of got in ? I assume yes./
What do I do now?? What actually happens to the board once water is in there?

Some advice and tips on what to do to fix it would be great

Board upside down on a couple of chairs or bricks and leave for a couple of days. Make sure you put a bowl under the vent plug to see if any water is coming out. If there seems to be a fair amount of water you may need to put a vacuum pump on it and suck it all out.

Everything you want to know is at: boardlady.com/water.htm

A tissue screwed in the plug that "fan out" water is the simplest thing to do.

do NOT Vacuum pump it , that will crush the foam (speaking from experience with a carbon skinned SLSC mal)

Don't have a vacuum pump anyways, so just got it on a good angle with tissue fanned out the vent hole. Will let it sit the whole week..

If water is in there should the tissue become wet? And need changing ?

Wouldn't stress out about it too much
many serious dings are two to three inches long with associated impact trauma

Put it somewhere warm right way up with a 'wick' pushed into the vent hole - I cut a strip off our mop.

The wick should get very wet and draw the moisture out.

So I have had it like that all day and the wick isn't very damp at all only just a little bit that is right up in the hole..

What does this mean? No water in there?
Or will take longer?
Or not doing it right?

The water will be evaporating as it exits via the wick , is the board much heavier (on scales not by your memory)
If much sea water got in any salt will get left behind i imagine and that will probably add some grams ?

It takes ages, basically forever. In the couple of times I did that with windsurf boards after that I always took out the plug when they were stored to just keep on letting it evaporate out. Putting it somewhere warm but out of the sun will speed up the process.

A good trick for the future is to have a bit of bright coloured ribbon or string or something and when the plug is out tie the ribbon to the leggie string, reminds you as you are about to get in the water.

A good vaccum pump can be made with aquarium air pumps and reversing the valves so the air is sucked in instead of pushed out. These pumps are not strong enough to damage a board, and can run for days.

For instance, I push air via the vent (white pump) and pull it via the ding in the nose (black pump)

Also, If there is a lot of water, I repair the ding once it is dry enough, but during no waves days, I just drill a hole in the ding, put a tube in it and resume pumping the water away. When I want to surf, just fill the hole with 5 minutes epoxy + microspheres, and hit the water.
